Rick, I cant help but want to fly fish for crappie like you have, but check out the follow up post this evening of our crappie Doodlesocking @ Bugtussel. You could not have accomplished the same results in tight quarters jiggin with the flyrod. I'm a rodbuilder so please take this with a grain of salt. I'm going to try some openwater flyrodding here on Longtown for the black crappie that do spawn deeper in clearer water. Thanks for the pics I really like that fly!!!

Default guess I should have been wade fishing!

Fished Rock Creek today mostly slow trolling jigs in 8 to 12fow. Managed 17 keepers and half of those came before 9:30am. We found some 63degree water west of highway 69 but the fish were still 6 to 8ft deep.(at least the ones we caught were). Water by the boat ramp was 56degrees. Did I mention that the wind was blowing?
    Hey, tell me a story!

    Default Another Guppy

Fish turn off this am . Only one fish. Moved away from he shallow water. I am not jigging with a fly rod. I am shooting 10’ to 15’ of line, even in the wind. I don't do jigs.

Then your only going to get the ones away from the beds that are hovering in a little deeper water.

Slow day. Weather change. I have actually been catching crappie the last three days in about thigh deep to knee deep water and I'm a short fellow. My indicator was set at about 6". In my opinion it won't start again until Sunday or maybe late Sat. afternoon. The water temp. I measure today with a thermometer at @ 6" below the surface was 64 F.

    Default Where are they?

Is it time to drive back down to Eufaula for crappie? What boat ramp do I need to go to? I need a safe place to fish since I am new to boating. I don't want to tear up the prop or worse. Thanks, all!

Fished my pond the last 2 days in a row, but only caught 4-6" bass.

No need for a boat. There are some culverts around Bugtussel area that will probably be good tomorrow. Probably need to get there real early or bring your own rock to stand on.

    Default Females

The females are there they just may not be on the beds! They always stay close if you are fishig from the bank try to cast out a little ways in deeper water and fish the about half way down the water column. Example if it is 4ft fish 2ft etc, Minnows or jigs doesn't matter, if the wind inst blowing put a cork on and try to work the bait slowly back to you while working the cork. If the wind is blowing you don't have to move it as much. But believe me you will catch the females. They are in open water more than they are on the nest. Good fishing EB
