    Default Report

We fished Wednesday March 17th, and caught 71 keepers we had 4 fish from 1.5-1.75lbs. Most of them were around 1lb. We spider-rigged minnows in 12-16ft of water, fishing 8-10ft deep. The wind was pretty brutal from the north, so we fished every north bank we could find that was next to deep water. Most people were fishing much shallower than us and they were catching a few but not many. I saw schools of shad all day on my sonar and we caught fish all day. I finally had he chance to put this on here, I have been baseballing for the last two days. Good fishing EB

well i fished I-40 for about an hour yesterday (early)with no results. there were about 6 other boats on the south side and i did not see anyone catching anything so I went to richardsville and nothing there also. I wound up fishing across from Gentry Creek and only caught 4 and left about 3 in the afternoon.

I guess I saw U spider riggin Okiedon.

I almost hollered Crappie dot com when I saw u spider riggin:D

I gave it up and anchored. I was in the green renegade bouncing one jig and drowning minnows.

OKIEDON: I fish from a older white/blue interior 17' i/o have setup with trolling motor and seat up front. I have my locator and rod holders raised so my older eyes can see the locator better. Have two of Crappie George 12' poles, I put in holders and use a 10' pole in my hand, more than I can keep up with sometimes. I fish by my self most of the time. Fish Oologah south end and Spencer Creek, sometime Rock Creek early spawn.

After reading ODIE and Eufaula boy's reports I'm getting a complex. If either one would give a seminar you could count me in.

One of these days I'll have a big fish story to tell. But right mow I'm watching it snow!!!!

My son and I fished with Eufaula Boy on Wed the 17th, had a great time! My 12 year old even thinks he out fished me, I was in the back where he could not see the ones I was catching! If you want to learn about spider riggin then Eufaula boy can show you!!!!! Learned many tricks about it! I am in the market for set up for my boat as we speak. Thinking of the Hi-Tek rod holders
Page Title and torn between an add a seat or building my own! Any thoughts on this by anyone let me know! Eufaula Boy thanks again for a great day!!! Happy catchin to all ya all! Mark

    Default Eufaula 3-19-10

My son and I stopped in Muskogee and picked up a friend and his son and drove to the Big E yesterday morning. We got on the water at Rock creek about 9am and started fishing. There were about 10 boats already there and more arriving. We saw a few fish being caught as we were unloading, it looked like they were casting jigs in about 10 fow. We fished in 8-12 fow and the fish were 6-8 feet. We used jigs and the best colors were blk/char and electric chicken. We did catch a few on cajun cricket and smoke. We just SLOW trolled in that depth and it was pretty much consistent all day. Most of the fish were caught in open water. We did find one piece of brush that we caught a dozen or so off of in 7- 8 fow. My boy hooked the brush and pulled on it and we never caught another fish off of it. We fished until 530 and left with 64 that were 10 inches and bigger. 35 were 10 inchers and the other 29 were nice, with the biggest being 1.6 lbs. We caught more black crappie yesterday than I have caught in my 25 years of fishing Eufaula added together. We only had 7 keeper black crappie but caught probably 30-40 small black crappie. Before someone says it, yes I know the difference between a white and black crappie. They were black crappie not the white male crappie that have turned black. None of the white male crappie were turning black yet, which is an indication the spawn is not on very heavy yet. I will take some pictures when I clean them and post them on here.

When we started fishing the water temp was 55 and by days end it was 61. We tried several times to catch them shallower and never got a bite. That part of it surprised me because of the warm water temps. It seems to me the fish are just starting to move to the staging areas. I think the next month should make for some great bank fishing.

Thanks for the compliment minnowtime. Here is how we were fishing. I was running the trolloing motor at 0.25 to 0.35 mph. I had a rod in each hand rigged with (2) 1/8 oz jigs. One rod had a 1/8 bright pink head with electric chicken garland on top and an 1/8 black head with blk/char beavertail on bottom. My other rod the jigs were just reversed chicken on bottom black on top. The boys had one rod each rigged the same and my buddy had 2 rods rigged like mine. My reasons for the heavy heads is 2-fold. The line stays tight so every bite is felt, no matter how light and your jigs stay at the right depth even when you are moving. In my opinion the fish are just getting ready to make there big run up shallow.

Here is a picture of 6 black crappie and 6 of the white crappie. Sorry the picture is from my phone, it is not that good.

Obie: thanks for info. I will slow down the boat speed next time, I was running .75/.85mph per GPS. I also like the 1/8 oz. jigs. I tried roastertails w/ plastic bait but not one bite on them. Tried beavertail and Garland in other colors but only black/__ was working.
I can always say I was there the wrong day, but I know I need to spend more time fishing and learning from the likes of you. Thanks

Sounds like you had 4 happy camper for the trip home.

    Odie/EB, thanks for the reports!

Judging from your report Odie, it looks like I was moving too fast as well. I'm usually moving along at .5 to .8 on my GPS. I'll slow it down next time and see what happens.

By the way, did you fish above the bridge on Rock Creek or below it?

Don, we left the ramp and went under the bridge , so I guess that would be above the bridge. We fished in deeper water and in shallow water but found all of the fish in 8-12 fow and 6-8 feet deep. Like I said they were out in the open water not around structure. We talked to 3 or 4 boats that came back by us headed back under the bridge toward the ramp and they said it wasn't very good.

    Default trolling

    Odie,

How deep is that area where you were fishing? When you are trolling, do you ever get hung up on things in the water? I am guessing it is deeper than 12 feet since the fish were in 6' to 12' of water. I am new to fishing and learning from everyone! You said you had 2 - 1/8 oz jigs on each rod and keep a tight line since you are trolling. Do you use a weight or just the weight of the jig?

    Thanks,
    Peke

Peke, there was deeper water around us but we found the fish in 8-12 feet of water and the fish were 6-8 feet deep. Yes we get hung up at times but a good locator prevents some of that. With a good locator you can see some of the hangups and adjust your depth. The two 1/8 oz jigs are sufficient at the speeds I listed. If I am going faster I use heavier heads such as two 1/4 oz or add some weight to the line.
