Fished a little cove where the lake backs up into a creek channel. Walked around the whole cove pitchin' a slipfloat with 2 jigs. Got to a boat slip where a bunch of brush had blown in on one side. The brush was out of the wind. Ended up with 5 an hour before dark. Black/pink 3fow. Heading back out tomorrow. SHALLOW!

the Big E was the Big W today..being W for windy, maybe I should throw in Rough also..got tired of standing on the trolling motor so I guess you could say I was blown off the lake..cleaned 19 this afternoon and was proud to get em. fish came from many different places today since you couldnt just fish a brushpile due to being blown all over heck..caught a few off the banks, woodpiles, rock piles, gravel banks..water temps were 58.4 early and warmed to 60.2 as I left or was blown..

    Default Frustrating Day!

I decided on the long drive to Bugtussle today to see how Coal Creek was fairing. I got on the water about 1 p.m. and headed up Coal Creek. At my first stop, I did something that I never do until I catch a fish. I opened the livewell lid, put in the pipe and filled the livewell. I just knew I'd need it today. As it turns out, I think I jinxed myself. Won't be doing that again!

Anyway, I stopped at the shale pit on the North side after going under the bridge. Spent about 45 minutes in there and NOTHING!

I noticed that the water was really murky, but I've caught them in murky water like that before. Gentry Creek is normally that color all the time. So I didn't pay much attention to it.

From there I hit a few points and timber up the creek past the power lines without putting a keeper in the boat.

Water temps were 63 to 68.

I just couldn't figure them out.

Went back out to the lake and hit the banks on the North side of the Bugtussle subdivsion and still couldn't buy a bite

Before I gave up, I hit a little cove East of the boat ramp. The South wind was blowing into this little cove and the bank looked like it had some depth to it so I worked my way down it. Just before coming to the end, I put my first Crappie in the boat. The boat was sitting in 2 foot of water and the temp was 68.

I headed back up the bank and picked up another one. Finally, things were looking up. I worked that bank over and pulled out 8 Crappie before I left.

I figured out what the deal was with that cove. At the mouth, the water temp was 62. About a hundred yards or so toward the end, the temp jumped to 68. I never caught a Crappie deeper than 2 foot and none were in water cooler than 66.

It was odd, because I'd found several places up Coal Creek that were 68 but never caught fish there.

Black and Pink Beavertail is all they wanted. Even turned their nose up at a Black and Pink Slab Slayer!

I talked to several guys back at the ramp and they had about the same luck. One group had been there all day and caught 12. The other group just said "not a good day" when asked how well they did.

Oh well, I have a few more fillets and it beats working Thumbs Up

what's the word on Eufaula? I'm thinking about heading down this weekend. Should they be on the banks due to the full moon? Or will this cold front delay it more?

We all keep thinking\saying we are days or a week or so from the spring spawn, but the cooler weather comes in and changes that. But, in the middle of April on Lake Eufaula anyone that fishes should catch crappie.

The spawn might not be on yet, but the crappie are picking up and everyone I have spoken to have been catching them.

Just be in the frame of mind that you might have to move to several different locations before you find them. Good luck.

Fished the south end today since the weather man said 15 to 25 mph winds..decided to fish the big easy insteaqd of tenkiller..shouldnt of listened to the weatherman..what a beautiful day..cleaned 50 crappie all over 10" and today caught a few early on the banks with cork and jig but that bite was over quickly..resorted to my brushpiles and that worked some better than the banks..fished piles in 7' to 14' today with the shallower piles being better producers..and many that have held fish were empty..and one more thing I noticed today was the little fish from 3" to 8" were everywhere..talked to several boat loads of fisherman today and the best i heard of was a boat with 19 in it and that was 3pm..did catch one male that had turned somewhat black but most didnt change until they were in the LW for awhile..so from my observations the bank run still hasnt hit yet but it cant be far from coming..WT was 67.3 when I unloaded at 7:30am and was 70.6 when I loaded at 4 pm..Did recieve a call from a friend from Okmulgee and he and his buddy kept a limit of crappies yesterday in the Bugtussel area and they didnt catch a fish off the bank either..shallow brushpiles and rock piles Cliff said worked best..

I noticed Barrow Morrow stated in his fishing report over the weekend that the spawn was basically over and that the females they were catching had already dropped their eggs. Do any of you agree with him? It seems most people here are still expecting a shallow bite in the coming days and weeks.
