Broken Bow was lovely. Not much to do down there except enjoy the beauty. Having a Jon boat I was limited on the lake. Couldn't just up and run to the other side and back unless I wanted to run out of gas. Need to find a way to get my 6 gallon tank back in. Having no good electronics I was forced to fish the marked fish attractors. Felt a real good thump straight out the gate and then nothing but short strikes. I downsized my bait and jig head and started catching hand sized saugeye. Would have loved to fish the northern part.

Stopped by Wister Lake on the way. Didn't fish as I am clueless where to start. I'll be back next year for it. Haven't been there in 10 years or so. Would have loved to get some of the big ones out of there though.

Which is better, coming from the lake into Gaines creek or from Hickory Point? I launched the Hickory Point. Really liked it at the creek. Sure beats Dink City, I mean OKC fishing! Was a little scared leaving my vehicle and trailer at Hickory Point. Wasn't maintained and had a creepy van parked in it.

Where does one get a lake map like that? I'm through fishing around where I live and am going to start making the 1.5 - 2 hour drive.

There is some standing timber in Gaines creek between Hickory Point and Highway 31 . You better stay in the main creek channel until you find where you want to fish because of stumps .

Fishing Hot Spots maps , Bass Pro sells them and so does Wal Mart . Eufaula takes 2 maps ( north and south ) to show the whole lake .

Jigs. Saw some minnow dunkers catching (and keeping) 6-8" Crappie.

Nip - I always go from Hickory Point. Sometimes a little spooky - but that's just life outside the city. I may live in the city but I'm country, thru and thru. I've even eaten possum.

These maps also give directions to ramps and give fishing tips and popular fishing areas are marked as well

Fished yesterday on my search for some film quality crappie. Started off in Gaines at daylight and after 3 1/2hrs of beating the wood only getting bit 6 times catching 4 losing 1 and missing 1 I loaded up at 10:45 and headed North. Unloaded at Arrowhead again at 11:30 fishing some piles we had found and some we had built and not a bump. Headed up railroad and dipping standing timber and was surprised that I caught several right off but on the small side being 9" to 10" fish. Loaded up at 1:30 headed north picking up a friend on the way and unloaded in the Eufaula City area and headed north across the lake. Finally around 3 I found some timber in 6' to 11' that were holding some good fish. It was slow I was told but they were certainly film quality fish. Biggest was a 1.51 slab but has several between that and 1lb. Baits of choice yesterday were the new big baits from BoneHead The Stump Bug and Stump Cricket in Orange/Chart and Blk/Chart and their Slim Stick in Pumpkin/Chart. Fished the bigger baits with a 3/16oz Crappie Pro Head and after figuring out the bigger fish wanted a slower presentation I switched over to a 1/16 oz Crappie Pro Head and a Slim Stick. Fishing this small jig and bait with 10lb BoneHead Hi Vis Mono caused the bait to slowly fall and flutter down the wood. Again you had to be a line watcher with this technique not always feeling the thump. Another thing I noticed was the size shad on the wood were all 3/4" to 1" on length. Was a long hot day searching quality fish. It's doable if you put in the time and sweat........Ranger

I will add this also since I neglected the water clarity around the lake. Gaines is at best no more than 3" Vis on the flats and no better than 2" Vis in the channel. Arrowhead area was 6" to 8" maybe and the main channel was no better than 6". Railroad was better at 8". Fountainhead area was 1' or just a bit better........Ranger

I stopped Gaines Creek again on the way home. Told myself if it was slow I was pulling out and going home. If if was good I was staying as long as it took. Hit the water at 9:00. Traveled a ways towards 31 and 1st stop snagged a 13". I thought boy it's on. Wrong. 2 hours had passed and numerous trees jigged and only one bite. Pulled out at 11 and went home.
