will be going Friday, any suggestions on wade fishing for the first time? really looking forward to it.
Gentry creek is a good area and Mill creek area. a place over looked alot is the Carr creek area also. Around the Gaines creek wildlife area is good too. I have caught several just there in town just south of the Lake Eufaula buiding on the west sid eof the railroad bridge. There is a little cove there that nobody fishes. You can also access the Bunny Creek bridge area. This is First Eufaula exit hang a right towards DHS office. then a immediate left. Turn at the Masonic lodge and a 1/4 mile you come to the bridge all that is good stuff. Friday won't be to many in there mostly on weekends.

Anyplace that’s not over the top of your waders. Upper Gentry Creek north of the bridge on the east side should work. Go west, past the Gentry Creek State Park turn off, take the second dirt road, turn left. There will be an orange painted gate. You should be able to enter and drive through the gate south towards the lake. The gate is within walking distance to the lake – Corps land. You can probably go to Google and select Checotah - maps – satellite and view the area.Quote:

My brother and his buddy fished out of my boat Tuesday and Wednesday and thy had 56 keepers on Tuesday and 68 keepers on Wednesday. They were spider-rigging Yum Beaver-tails and vibra king tubes in 4-8ft of water, fishing 3-4ft deep. Out of 124 keepers they had 26 fish over 14 inches, 90% were females. They had to really search for places out of the wind, they fished secondary creek channels where you had to be looking for them to find them, I told them the key to getting bites when the wind is blowing you around that hard is keeping the baits still as possible. good fishing! Guess these things will eat chicken feathers also. Mistakes like this will drive me to drink cheap scotch. Thought I had a big crappie. Measured some water temp. @ 68 ˚F. Not finding the herds of crappies like I did when the water was 60˚ F about a week ago. They are scattered around close to shore with the catfish. I have only been fishing about 2 hrs. each day but will go longer hours the next two days. Caught some males 4 ≤ 12”. Recardo Paredes

Hi Eufaula gang,
I am heading to Eufaula right now. (Friday 6:45) I hope the wind dies down. We spent the last hour fighting the wind pushing us sideways on the highway. We are at the first Eufaula exit and it seems better.
Are the crappie just about everywhere now? I don't do the wading thing. I have a healthy respect for snakes!
Does anyone have a suggestion on where I should fish if not wading?

Thanks allot. Looks like my trip may be over. The place where I was hammering the crappie has gone south with no action. Measured the water temperature this pm and got a solid reading of 68˚ F. I have been seeing fish caught in other areas, but too deep to wade and looks like mostly males. I kept a spread sheet of the days I fished with water temperatures and weather conditions. Hope this will help me in the future. I ‘m planning on buying new waders. Mine are getting real old and worn out. Lots of crawling in and out of Wind River Canyon and Lake Eufaula. I lost the big crappie when the opportunity came. Just have to be smarter than the fish. Learned allot about crappie behavior in shallow water. Hopefully, I will be back in Wind River Canyon this fall and return here again next spring. Thanks RickQuote:

Well, I fished Thurs. at Graves Creek and cleaned 7, fished Friday at Gentry Creek and cleaned 9.
But today, got up early since we didn't have to take our daughter to school (and pick her up) and made it to Coal Creek by 8. Put in at Juniper Point.
Dang, are they every going to fix that hole in front of the ramp?
And when will that place get a courtesy dock! Geez!
Anyway, went up coal creek and had 7 or 8 fish by 1 p.m. Just couldn't find any huge numbers. Fished the West side of Hwy 69 bridge, North end. Then went to the South end, picking up a few males along the way.
Had a little picnic lunch in the boat with my daughter and then got back to business and headed up the creek.
We were slow trolling down the shore for a couple hundred yards moving at about .5 mph using jigs and minnows. Started catching big females in 3 to 6 fow fishing 2 to 4 feet down.
Second trip down the shore we started catching the males. We caught them in the same areas as we caught the females plus up on the bank in water that was a foot or less.
Water temp was 63 in the a.m. and hit 70 in one area. It had cooled to 65 when we left.
Hot jigs were 1/4 ounce Crappie Pro Chart. jig head with Yum black/pink body and Orange Crappie Pro 1/4 ounce jig head with BG Electric Chicken. Wife used Rosies to catch her fish. The water temp got too high in the bucket and they all died but she still caught a bunch of fish off here dead Rosies! It seemed the Crappie didn't care!
Ended the day with 48 Crappie plus 3 Sandies.

Fished Eufaula Saturday, caught 111 cleaned 92. Biggest was 1lb 10 oz. Had several wieghing between 1lb-1.5 lbs. Minnows and jigs. Jigs were electric chicken with pink head and electric ghost with pink or plain lead head. Fishing in 9ft water 5-7ft deep. Was fishing around Jones Creek area (Elm Point boat ramp)
Nice mess of Crappies Speck. Looks like someone has a big cleaning chore to do, but that's a very good thing. :)

I don't know how the pics get resized. My wife takes them on her cell phone and then emails them to me. I just download them into a file until I'm ready for them. I'll see if I can find a setting on her phone.
I love taking my daughter fishing, but she doesn't have much patience. I suppose most kids her age don't. I probably didn't at her age either. I'm just glad my Wife brings a lot of stuff along for here to do!

I love fishing CC, but Juniper Point is a tad over 100 miles from my home or I'd be there more. I fished it twice last Summer with EB and a few times last fall with a buddy after I bought my boat. The fall trips were crappie/catfish trips and we did well every time we went.
The whole reason I chose it this time is because I thought there would be less people there because it's not as easy to get to as Rock Creek or Crowder. I saw a lot of people on CC yesterday, but I guarantee you Crowder and Rock Creek were zoo's!
After about 6 p.m., we nearly had the whole creek to ourselves. Except for the guy who camps out on that point where the secondary creek comes in on the North, just below the power lines. There's an old overhead Camper there. He has a good thing going!
I noticed he had about 20 yo-yo's out and some jugs. I'm betting he was filling the freezer! Every time we came by, he'd have Crappie on the yo-yo's. Weird seeing Crappie heads pointing up out of the water :eek:
Also a real nice Tom on the side of the ridge on down the creek late in the day, but he was hush mouth and not telling anyone where he was spending the night :(

On another note, I broke my last B'n'M rod yesterday. It wasn't even a year old. Set the hook on an average male and it just bent over. This will probably be the last one I buy. Now that I know Leland and Crappie George, I don't see any reason to buy from them anyhow :D

We fished Saturday and caught 60 keepers, spider-rigging, in 4-8 ft of water with beaver-tails and vibra king tubes. The wind haunted us a little but we still manged to have a decent day. Then Sunday we caught 99 in 5hours, We spider-rigged 4-8ft of water fishing 4-5ft deep, we had 8 fish identical from 1.55-1.68lbs it seemed like the females were near deeper areas instead of the 4-6ft breakline near the spawing areas. We saw 2 guys fishing the buckbrush all day and they said they ha 98 keepers and 905 of them were males. 90% of the fish we caught were females, some had dropped some hadn't. Good Fishing EB
Fished Gentry area Sunday morning, took the boat to the buckbrush and waded for a few hours. Took home 66 of which 7 were females. Amazing how the males color changes in a week. Wish I would have taken pictures as we had some bruisers and with all of the black coloring they are a great looking fish. Hit a spot for 30 minutes just before we left as a "pre-fish" for one evening this week, deeper water and caught 7 of which 5 were females.
What a day on Eufaula today. There were 3 boats of us and we all fished different areas. My boat fished the Cardinal point area, one of the guys fished the Elm point area, and the other boat fished the Longtown area. We knocked off about 4pm in my boat and had 67 keepers over 10 inches. Most of our fish were females caught in 5-8 fow. We caught most of them on big blk/char., blk/pink beavertails and big electric chicken slab slayers. The boat in Elm point area finished wtih 111 keepers and caught some on minnows and most on jigs, blk/pink and blk/char. They said early in the day they caught their fish in 5-8 fow then late this afternoon they were right on the bank. The boat in the Longtown area finished with 74. They caught all their fish on jigs. They said most of their fish were in 1-3 fow. 3 of us are going tomorrow in one baot and I will report tomorrow night.

Any Ideas what the rain is going to do for the crappie bite Saturday after the rain. Forecast now are showing the rain should be out by Saturday morning. Is it according to how much we get or what?
It should help raise the shallow water temps if anything. That's the diff. from last year....we had more cloud cover to hold the temps stable overnight, this year with the bluebird days every morning has been cool and that alows the heat of day to radiate away and cool the water right back down.
Any tips on where an outta stater can catch a few fish? I'm headed down on Friday, but won't be fishing till Monday or so. I will be staying in Warner. From reading the posts, sounds like fishing slabs down in your neck of the woods is a little different than up here in MN. When they hit the spawning beds up here 90% of the time its in shallow reeds.
Also, I see some references to Three Rivers area of the lake. Where exactly is that?
Yesterday we were down to 3 people so we took one boat. We started trying the shallows in the morning and kept about 15 -20. We then went down to Elm point area and caught some nice females in 6-8 fow and several males in 1-3 fow. Left there with another 50 or so. We then went to Longtown in the afternoon and caught the females in 5-8 fow and the males in 1-3 fow. We kept about 15- 20 there. Final total for the day was 91 kept. We caught several nice black crappie in the Longtown area. The biggest black crappie weighed 2lbs 1 oz. I caught a white female that was 16 inches long and weighed 2 lbs 4 ozs in the Elm point area. My buddy took some pictures that I will try to post later. All fish caught on jigs.
Today we were down to 2 of us and we fished the Gentry creek area. Caught some nice females in 5-9 fow then started fishing the shallows with a jig and cork. The jig was set about 8" below the cork and the fish were in 1-2 fow. We left at 4pm today and had 71.
I enjoyed fishing with some guys that I don't get to fish with very often, since I moved to Oologah. It was a well spent 3 day vacation. I am back home now and after reading the Oologah report it sounds like I got home just in time for some great fishing up here.

Hey YankeeMN I've been to your part of the woods every year during the 2nd week of June hitting Rainy on the way up to Canada. Unbelievable fishing. The size quality there is awesome. If I was in Warner I would probably just drive over to the Gentry Creek area. When fishing gets hot on Eufaula it is nothing to pull a big slab out of only 6 inches of water. The water clarity is not even close to Minnesota the water resembles milk chocolate. To get to Gentry head west from Warner to checotah on I40 exit second exit to north 69 then take the very next exit and take a left. Stay on this 266 hwy. When you go around the sharp curve there will be a straightaway of about mile and a half it will the turn left at the three way intersection. Tjere should be a sign that states gentry creek camp.
Thanks for the heads up MrRodBender. The whole idea of catching crappies that shallow is foreign to me. That shallow of water up here is weeds so thick you'll never recover your jig most of the time. So you're reccomending staying shallow, real shallow. Key on brush, or just work shorelines? Look for drops to main lake and creek arm I'm assuming.
As for water quality I am aware, lol. Its a whole different experience on most of ya'lls lakes. Up here our dirty lakes still have 2-5' of water clarity, and some of the clear lakes have 15-20' plus.
As for hitting the Rainy, you gotta come up during the spring right about now sometime and hit it. I have a bunch of buddies that fish it on a regular basis (some who are guides). When the ice is coming off of LOW, the bite is amazing! Last week one of my buddies had 8 eye's between 27-29" (8-12lbs) in one afternoon. Plus about 30-40 nice eaters mixed in. At the same time the sturgeon bite is going nuts, and catching fish that range from 40-60+" is routine! Most of my buddies are headed up there this weekend for an annual get together and I'm sure it will be a blast.
We weren't able to make it out till Sunday. Fished I-40 just long enough to figure out it wasn't going to happen there. Moved over to Emerald bay and started working the bank. We went west from there, all the way over to Elm Grove Creek. We found a few nice males tight on the shallow brush, and I mean tight. We weren't set up for doodle socking, but we should have been. The fish were so tight in the brush that we couldn't really get at them with our corks and minnows.
It was another of those "You shoulda been here yesterday " stories.:rolleyes:
Finally got back to Coal Creek today with a buddy. We were on the water by 9:30 and it was overcast with light rain. Rough ride from Juniper Point to Coal Creek but it seems it's always worth it.
Had 11 in the boat by noon and waited out the first heavy rain under the 69 bridge. We tried to judge when the rain slowed down and go out and fish. We did this a couple of times and finally gave up around 2:30 wet and cold.
The weather didn't bother the Crappie, they were still biting when we left.
We were catching them in 4 to 6 feet of water right off the bank with 3" Slab Slayers in Cajun Cricket and Chart. Crappie Pro 1/4 ounce jig heads.
Ended the day with 16. Not bad seeing how we spent the last 3 hours under the bridge more than we fished!!!
Guess it's time for a good rain suit! :o
Sorry Meatdragger...I agree. As I said in my first post, Spent Wed - Sat down at Rock Creek. Got our limit everyday. Pushing homegrown jigs in 1-4 fow. Cold and rain Sat night and Sun. kept us off of the water.
cleaned 18 yesterday in the Massey Point area. Females still had eggs.
Smoky Okie, I was in the same boat....uh, well our boat was in the shop too. Our boat is out now, and my husband and I are heading to Eufaula in the morning. They saved the best fish for all the people who had boats in the shop! Don't ya think? We'll fill our boats tomorrow! :D
Jason21, What is "pushing jigs"? Is it trolling in the front of the boat instead pulling the lines behind you? I may be way off! What size jigs did you use? Do you get hung up on structure and break the line? Do you stop trolling when you have a fish on or keep going? I know where the housing addition Rock Creek is, but I don't think it is the same place you were fishing.

We did ok there 2 or 3 weeks ago but then they kinda quit. Dunno why, shouldn't they be in the creek still?
Fished the small cove north of Arrowhead today. That little cove next to Rock Creek Cove and Rock Creek Heights housing addition to the end of Windsor addition. 15 mph winds with 35 mpg gusts was not fun. Fished with jigs first, but I guess I don't have the knack. Started using minnows and caught some of those green carp and some crappie and even perch. Water was 65 degrees in the morning. Most were caught after 2:00 in 3-5 feet of water, but only 1-2'deep with a cork.

fished saturday and sunday from my dock and only caught a few keepers...they were hitting in five feet off water and have moved off the bank. The good news is the bass were really hitting....don't know how many of those I caught...lost track....both on minnows and crank baits.....now getting ready for round two...stripers at texoma during the day and crappie fishing all night...woo hoo....i love this time of year.
