Fished Sardis yesterday. A beautiful day on the water. I dont think it got above 85 degrees. The fishing was very good in most the places that I fished. I started on piles in 20 FOW and in 16 FOW in main lake areas, caught lots but all were short so I pulled out and headed to the main lake timbered areas. Caught better size fish immediately in 17-20 FOW . Wind picked up a bit so I headed up lake to some coves out of the wind. I found an area that had a thermocline. The large cove has extensive shallow flats on either side of a deep channel. The temp on the flats was 88-90, out in the main lake it was in the low 80's. I am not sure how thermoclines form, but I think the big temp difference from the flats may be able to initiate it. It was the only place on the lake I noticed a thermocline, and it was a relatively small zone, about 300 yards of the channel. Anyway, it had set up at 15 feet and the fish were stacked in there just above it on wood and along the channel edge. I fished my jigs at 12 feet deep and just killed them. Water vis was about 18 inches. Nothing huge but lots of fish between 1 and 1.5 LBS. It didnt matter what I used, they hit everything I threw at them. Caught LGMB's and cats too, everything was chowing down on shad just above that thermocline.
