Thats td a good description of what they do when you have to use "the force" to know you have a bite. We call that hitch hikers.

Thanks Merle, It was my first taste of winter fishing this year, the coveralls and big jackets are coming out regardless of the forecast until spring. Maybe the spider rig will make it out too.

Another thought Fishers, since you fish a lot by yourself, like I do. I carry one of those huge zip lock bags with a towel, and complete change of clothes, in the boat all winter. If one of us ever takes a splash in the water, I think it could be a good thing to have with us. While I am hi jacking your post, it's good time to mention wearing a PFD, and the kill switch!

I'll add to the hijack....I carry two sets of sweat pants/tops, wool socks, a stocking cap, and a lw summer rainsuit in my bag. The sweats can be surprisingly warm under the Froggtoggs. All that compresses down easily. One of the bad things about the older Lund multi-species boats is they have no ladder. At my age, all bundled up, I would never be able to get back in the boat. I recently found some postings about installing a ladder on a Lund Explorer so I have one on the way. One of my friends is a woodworker (actually two, but this one lives here) and we already plan on the installation. Now - back to Sardis - keep up the reports - one of my favorite lakes I rarely get to visit

I used to carry all that gear when I was younger. Now that I'm a geezer, I just leave the life insurance policy on my wife's desk whenever I go out.
    Just kidding.

If you need to, you can use the edge/lip/plate that separates your lower unit from the rest of the outboard to get back in the boat.

Used to think the same way but then her insurance policy is worth more than mine and my grandpa lived to 95. I'm just kidding too. We've been together 55 years and married 52. Can't imagine not having her.

That's what I've always done but this summer it wasn't easy with my arthritis. I think it would be much harder with a ton of waterlogged clothes in the winter. So, I feel good about the ladder.

BTW, Merle and I are talking about a 2-3 day trip to Sardis sometime in April. Maybe you could make it down to give us the lowdown on how you find the fish. I've fished it lots a few years ago but almost always for bass.

    Iken,
Sounds as if we have similar stories. Bigfishmama and I have only been together for fifty-one years. Uncle Bob made it to 104 and Bess was 103. Uncle Ras was 94.
Dad is 89, but my mother-in-law is 91 and still works as a CPA. The only set rule that my wife and I have is that I go first, since I'd never survive without her.
