The fishing is hot right now at Carl Blackwell. The banks were lined with people last night in the cover around the enclosed dock and boat ramps. I was in my boat and seen several full baskets taken out. I got on the water at 745 last night and I fished the dam to start off and caught a lot of smaller crappie(8-9") and several sandbass, Large Mouth Bass, and a couple channel cats. Moved over the the coves and worked the rocks and did real well and the fish were a lot bigger. I was using a 1/16 road runner with a silver blade, a MO Glow Bobby Garland jig (Outlaw Special). Largest crappie was 1.4 pounds but had several that was around a pound. Several females still had eggs. Ended the night with 36 (one shy of a limit cause I cant count)
one shy is ok . one over can be expensive!!:fish:biggrin
The wife and I were out Friday night and slayed em, but they were mostly small, in the 8-10 inch range. We got a few in the 11 inch range. Some boaters came in with quite a few 14 inchers from the upper end of a cove, Red something. There were about 20 other people out, and they were catching small ones also. Glad Swollen got onto the bigger ones.
Went out last night (6:45-10:00). The guys said it was super over the weekend, but it was slow last night. I got 12, with one 13 incher. Another guy got about the same. The other guys mostly got two or three. Didn't bring a thermometer, but the water seemed very warm.
Bigsky...I was also out there yesterday also. Got there about 6 in my boat and fished the rocks around fish house and that area and picked up maybe 15 and only 2 keepers of 10" or 11". Left and fished the rocks on south end of dam and picked up a fish every cast or every other cast but very few keepers. Tons of 8" males that were almost black. Used a 1/16 ounce feather jig about 15" under a cork. Was fun but really was hoping for some keepers. And as far as WT...I remember seeing 67.8 on my hds unit near dam.
Thanks Swollen. I think I saw you south of the dock. I was over on the other side, fishing about 15 inches under a tiny bobber. Used several colors (white, chartreuse, yellow, orange, brown), some feather and some hair. Got all but one on a twitch-pause retrieve. Maybe I'll have to do some hiking over to the dam.
Fished today right as the rain was stopping. Started on the dam where the bite was on fire. 6 casts...6 fish. It was pretty steady there until the wind picked up and they almost shut off. Moved to a cove and couldnt find them near the rocks....hit some piles in 12 foot of water and pulled mayne 10 of each pile. Lots of smaller fish today but managed a couple keepers. Water temp was 71. Water was murkey. Baits today was a black/grn minnow minder and 1/16 ounce jig head for the piles and along the dam I used two jigs, tuxedo shimmer bobby garland and a tri color shad from Ol' shoot bank custom jigs. 1/16 jig heads. Casted parallel to rocks and brought back slow. Had to fish off the rocks aways maybe 10 foot to get bit. Get closer then that and nothing. Attachment 161542
Nice job Swollen! Wish I lived close enough to run over to the lake, early or late!
