Good morning TimY. I never fish at Kaw lake. Can you tell me any where that I can fish from the bank? Thanks a lot. TimY.

I see lots of fish caught off the dock at Washunga. the beavers have brushed the underside up really good. it would be my pick! You can also catch fish off the rip rap at washunga, walking the banks. you have to park a ways away, but it should be worth your walk. I like to fish the NE rip rap when walking the bank, but it can all be really good.

Here you go. These places are where they are catching them now from the bank. 1) Osage Cove fishing dock and cove- east end of Kaw Dam 2) Pioneer Cove / Marina -Kaw City 3) Washunga Bay around dock and cove near boat ramp ( They don't allow fishing on dock but you can do well around it late in the evening) 4) West end of Sarge Creek riprap on south side east of Kaw City. These are all good places but I would fish late in the evening from 5 pm to dark. Use a minnow under a cork set at 1 to 3 ft or a jig under a cork at the same depth. Jig color doesn't really matter as long as it's chart / black LOL. Fish along the bank parallel to it. Use smallest cork you can like those 2 1/2 in Styrofoam ones at Walmart that's 3 for 1.00. Work jig SLOW along bank. Have fun and good luck

Newbie, the Thill mini-shy bite is THE best float. I use it with 4 lb. test and a 16th oz. jig. It won't cast a mile, but it gets out there pretty well. It will stay on top as long as you retrieve the jig, even if super slowly. If you stop the retrieve, the jig will sink VERY slowly, which is often a killer at drawing strikes from fish that won't hit on the retrieve. It's also fun to watch fish hit the Thill itself. I've had crappie, bluegills, smallmouth, largemouth, sandies, walleyes, and a few cats strike at the bobber. If there were a way to rig a hook to the Thill without breaking the balsa, I would do it. Hope this tip adds to your catch.
ps Many times, the wife and I have used the Thill and caught a lot more fish than the guys using the styrofoam bobbers.

Crappie bite went to a crawl after the front so tried the bluecat yesterday and loaded the boat. Caught 35 up to 26 lbs on a floater rig in 2 ft of water. Kept a few. Hopefully the crappie will pick back up.

Kenny I used cut shad sprayed down with team catfish dead red. Lake was really rolling today. Water from Kansas hit the north end. Saw everything coming down including chest freezers. Tons of debris including trees. Not a day to be on the water on the north end.
