Southwest Power Pool is who sets the schedule for Kerr Dam which is the dam between Hudson and Ft. Gibson. I found an article this morning which gave their website but said it's about as reliable as the weather forecast. It is frustrating to go planning on crappie fishing to get washed out.Quote:

Anyway, so I goes back out on Saturday and the water is rolling and it was high. The water of course was a mess with a lot of debris and my depth finder was very hard to read due to the muck and phuck that the river was carrying. It has been my experience that I cannot find reputable real time information on the Hudson to Gibson conditions but it's still a nice area to fish.
One other thing that surprised me, and it probably shouldn't have since I don't get out all that often is that the Chouteau Bend rec area is up and running and they're slowly cleaning out all of the mobile homes that were there. A few thousand dollars in dozer and track hoe work around the ramps would really help the place. You have to be very careful when trying to beach your boat around those landings due to the large rocks, rebar and all of the crap that is hidden beneath the water around the landings.
Caught 14 on Monday, they were everywhere from 18" off the bank to 12' feet in the brush. FleFly Go-Go's and Kickers black chartreuse and firecracker.

Fished Thursday 3/6/17 started off slow with fish deep in the middle of brush catching on the 2" Fle-Fly firecracker. Change to the larger size 3" in Buster Brown and business picked up, that pulled the bigger fish 11" and 12" out of the brush. So bigger bait resulted in less hang-ups and bigger fish!

If you can hit it when it's going up the bite is on, if you catch it going down not so much. Like Will Rogers almost said; "If you don't like the lake level on Fort Gibson Lake, wait a minute and it'll change.

Well, I've been fishing Gibson and the river between Hudson and Gibson for at least 15 years and I've come to the conclusion that, to my way of thinking, while the fishing can be good there are too many inconsistencies for me to keep it up and it is so hard to catch it right. The water flow or lack of flow, inconsistent river and lake levels and conflicting reports along with this devilish Oklahoma wind has finally won and I'll proclaim that I've had enough. I'm selling my boat and I'll either stick to fishing the bank at Blue Bill or Flat Rock or I'll use my kayak but I'm not going to fight these weird conditions every time I want to fish.
It occurred to me that my catch rate per trip is marginal and with all the money that I spend on gas for my truck, stuff for my boat, rods and reels, lures, insurance and tagging, etc., that I would rather get my money out of my boat and call a guide when I want to fish the sand bass and crappie peaks.
My boat is a 2013 or 14 War Eagle 1542 FLD (elevated forward deck) that has a live well and rod box, two Lowrance units, single and pedestal seats, rod holders for trolling, fully skinned, hand controlled 45 lb trolling motor with a 25 HP Mercury 4 Stoke with T/T with less than 30 hours on it. It's got a 6 gallon tank and an onboard charger. Trailer has neck joint for easy storage and I had the dealer install wedges under the transom that completely halted porpoising so, with me and no wind (when I can find that), it will easily turn 25 mph. It has been garage kept, with a cover and you can eat off the floor if you want. I asked my dealer, Barling Boat Sales in Fort Smith to handle the sale for me. Contact them if you're interested.
Great boat but I typically fish alone and like any other boat, even my kayak, when I'm fighting the wind or the current I lose my enthusiasm. Guess I'm going to need the names and numbers of a couple of good crappie guides.

Fished yesterday evening from 5:00 until 7:00. Caught 45 fish and 22 over 10 inches. Biggest fish was 13.75 1.6lb. Lot's of people out fishing the banks of the cove. I was still fishing in the dock catching them at 10-15ft in 35ft of water. I usually only get out on the weekend, but I was able to sneak out yesterday evening. Neighbors said that they have been catching them all week in the evenings. All of the gates were open when I crossed the dam and it appeared that the lake was falling. Hope this helps.
