I finally got a chance to go and put in some brush piles, most of the folks I know have already gotten there new piles in or there old ones replenished several weeks back mainly during the colder Winter months, but these did go in two days before the official day of Spring so technically it was still winter even though it was like 82 degrees.
This was a lot harder work than I remembered it being in the past, the morning started with loading up with concrete blocks which weighed 32 lbs. each, thought it would be useful to know so I set one on the scales. Then we broke out the chain saw and went to work on trimming a few peach trees and removing some apple trees that were to close to a fence line. Since most of the brush/small trees ended up being much larger after they were cut than before, most were 14' to 16' we decided to focus on deeper water structure in the 20+ range.
Below are a few pictures form the events of the day, we ended up with 10 new piles with the smallest one about 12' tall and a couple that over 16'. I'm thinking they should be ready for post spawn crappie!

Attachment 261351 I'm quite proud of this shot, it is the first picture from my Helix 10 SI/GPS.
Great job but you left out the coordinates!!
Yes, and a tutorial to convert from humminbird to Garmin finder :)
Took my kids and my niece to Gibson the last weekend of Spring Break. Heeding Okiefishers advice we camped at blue bill and kept to the north end of the lake. Caught about 8-10 sandies trolling cranks. Didn't have much luck until we got up in the river on the last day. One adult with three kids and a dog, kinda felt like I was herding cats. Kids had a great time though, and I slept like a little fat baby when we got home. Next kid fishing adventure is to Beaver first weekend of April.
Saw Fle-Fly and Ranger on Youtube fishing Ft Gibson river yesterday. Slow day of fishing.
What is the condition of boat ramp and dock at Chouteau Bend? Thanks
We fished last to evenings Tuesday did fair kept 8 which was enough for a mess threw back a bunch of dinks in 9" range. Wednesday the cold front was coming in and it had em' in lock jaw, only 1 over 10 all of our fish was still in the 15 to 18 fow. Other folks that were able to fish earlier mid-day did better, may go back today just to see even though there's still a chill in the air after the front has pushed through, will update if we go.
