Fished Gibson today looking for some new water to fish. Fished wood and rock on the lower end of the lake with it being 3.5' high with 7 gates open and a lot of current. We caught around 30 total fish and had enough good fish for supper. Magic depth was 8' to 15' of water and the WT was 84. You had to get out of the main lake current to get bit. Slab Bandits in Blk Shad and Salt n Pepper along with Slab Slayers in Pumkin/Chart were the productive colors. I tried the Berkley Crappie Candy today and I can tell you they stay on your hook much better and will last for several fish before having to be replaced. Only bad thing about them is the Catfish love them too and I had my line broke several times today and landed several too.......Ranger
Glad you tried some new water and found some fish! Surprised you tried it with the gates open. However I am just learning this crappie game!
It's not the ideal fishing situation that's for sure. You have to want to see new water pretty bad to go fishing with that much current. But we made the best of it and caught a few crappie doing it.....Ranger
Had to bid a job on the lake yesterday, so I took the boat :biggrin Fished for about 7 hours on the main lake. Started at some docks, right away I lost a big fish. That sucked me into what ended up being a 3 hour waste time and minnows catching small bass. Went up lake and and searched the channel edge for lay downs. Found some I liked after a hour of searching, fished two of them catching probably 25 fish in a couple of hours with 8 keepers, only one real nice one. The current was really pushing even though I was on the main lake. The fish were stacked up on the slack side of the lay downs. I was dropping my 1/4 ounce weight on top of the main trunk and nudging it along till the current pushed it off the log into the slack behind the trunk they were stacked up behind the trunk like trout in a river getting out of the current.
Started early around 7am before the current got really bad. We ( Senior Jigger ) had 26 keepers at 10:30 and the lake started to turn upside down from the current. We ended the day with a full limit of 30 and had a total of 40 Keepers. All total was over 60 fish caught and boated today. Baits we pearl slab slayers and slab bandits in blk shad and lime/pearl. Depth of water was shallow from 6' to 12' and WT was 79.4 degrees all day. We got alittle wet a couple of times from rain but it was a beautiful day. You had to find some eddy water after the current started rolling to catch a fish. If you was in the current at all you might as well go home. Our biggest was 1 3/4lb today and was a black species. We had a mixed bag with more whites than blacks but not by much....Ranger

Mark that pic is one of the exact spots I fished. Did you lay that wood in there?
Nope that's the community hole everyone fishes that once or twice through the years.......Ranger
