G3- saw you rig in the lot Saturday- how did you do? My rig was the first in line (red toyota). Rain was heavy- I had to put up my umbrella with the 9 foot mast. With the umbrella and my frog togs, I was actually pretty comfortable even in those heavy down pours.
I caught 25 or so. 8 solid keepers by noon and had to get back for a football game. Fish were on the channel swings and scattered. I caught nothing in 10' or less water. All fish were near the bottom in 12' or better water. I tried fishing shallower but could keep the black and sand bass off me. My brush piles were only holding dinks.....

Fished the upper end today with a buddy and had 34 keepers 25 blacks and 9 white crappie. Biggest was 1.87lbs and had several that were between 1.30 to 1.55 today. Baits of choice were baby shads in blue thunder, tuxedo shimmer, silver metal flake, and chart/pearl slab bandit. WT temp was 80.1 when I unloaded and got up to 85.7 when I left at 4pm. Deepest I caught fish was 13' and as shallow as 5'. Fish are still scattered so you have to fish alot of stuff and you don't have to beg em to bite either. Key is to keep moving. They did hit alil better this afternoon than they did early though.....Ranger

What a difference a day makes in the river. Today there wasn't any current as there was yesterday, and then the wind was a killer today also making it almost impossible to stay on anything in the open. We gave it our best shot today though and kept 14 very nice crappie. We had so really nice pigs today with the biggest just under 2lbs and several from 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 lbs. We caught them from casting and dragging to long poling flipping and swimming Wollybees in pearl/chart. and pumkin/chart. in shallow cover. Today even the short crappie didn't want to bite only catching maybe 10 or so short 1's as to yesterday we caught probably 50. Water temps was 83 at unloading and got up to 86 before leaving. The one thing that still holds true is anything over 10' your wasting your time fishing.Name: Gibson 8-28-2012 002.jpg

Nice Slabs gentlemen....nothing like Ft Gibson thumpers. Even when it is slow, a couple studs like those make the day worth while

I am new to fort Gibson. Is the river you are fishing chouteau Bend ? I have really only fished the area near the golf course and have not found much brush there. I am an old guy with my first boat . I used to catch a lot of 10-12 inch crappie from the boat docks in that area but now I need to learn a new trick. If anyone can just point me in the right direction I have a pretty good locator and shouldn't need to beg you for your honey holes! Thanks for your help. Appreciate the posts and love to see those specks. I don't remember catching any black crappie in Gibson but I would love to start!

Thanks EB and Ranger. I read recently that they are working on the dam and trying to keep the lake 2' low for that project . Might last as long as 2 more years. So maybe we have a little time if they can open those gates wide enough to keep it down.
