Ranger, is it the light penetration on slick water or what is your thoughts. All I know is I DON'T like slick water. Too many times can't get a bite and let a little ripple start and bang get a bite. dj

It's my thoughts on slick water is sound and shadows. It seems that fish of all species are a lot spookier when there isn't a ripple or wave action on the surface. Take the baitfish for instance. On slick water when you make a movement they scatter while with a ripple or light waves they do not. Then comes the sound part of it. With slick water just the slightest sound will spook the fish. Again try the same thing with and I am sure you have noticed this many times before that they will spook and scatter with the slightest sound. Just my theory and I am sticking to it. I can tell you that clear water fish are different animals. I almost never run over a known pile with my big motor. Always with my trolling motor. Reason being spooked fish. I have put this theory to the test many times on clear water fish and it produces many more strikes and fish in the LW by doing it this way........Ranger

Another thing in clear water is boat position. Always position the boat after marking wood on the down sun side to not cast a shadow over the wood. This will add many more bites and fish in the LW.........Ranger

Ranger, thanks for your thoughts, you have a lot more experience than I have so I'm going with it. I do try to position my boat not to cast a shadow on the wood. I've been working a lot lately with my new HB 360 on my TM. If I have the wood marked I just pull up to it real slow an start fishing it. I think it is really going to work good in clear water (with light wind) I can just put the wood 15-20ft. from the boat and cast to it. Now if someone would just teach me how to "cast n drag" LOL

We had a great day with Mark on the water Aug 1. He is a wealth of knowledge and schooled us literally and figuratively on how to catch post cold front Crappie.
The lake was beautiful that morning..in fact a little too calm for the catching but the fishing part was great. Mark went the extra mile for us and we are grateful and highly recommend him. We may be hitting him up for another round at a nearby lake one of these days.

UOTE=Ranger09;2754830]Attachment 1699621/2 day trip with David and Mike yesterday. We started at 7:30 on a few trees in 35' to 45' DOW only finding a few. A blue bird day after a front and still having north winds drove the crappie deep into the wood and holding tight. Cast n Drag technique was tough since the crappie would not come and get the jig. We settled for vertical over the tightest wood and was able to weed a few out. Ended the day with 20 and a few throwbacks. Had a great day with some really good folks. BoneHead Rods and Mono and light colored baits were the ticket today........Ranger[/QUOTE]

    That would be us.
