TENK Elevation Wow, 6 feet in 24 hours. Any idea if this is going to be good or bad for the fishing?

We went out Saturday afternoon, caught some really really nice fish, about 18' deep in 20fow but not a lot of em. Seemed the bite was off, for us anyways. Water temp was back to 58 degrees. Rained out Sunday and almost didn't get to leave the farm, 2 creeks to cross and 3+feet deep in each of them. But we did get out. I would have to guess the bite will slack off for a while until it clears up (water) some, and the temp comes back up. Maybe Ranger09 will chime in, he seems to know what he is doing, where as I am scratching my head and coming up with more questions than answers.

I know what you mean Redge. My work is outside, so I get to fish today, but it looks like too much water too fast to hit Tenkiller. I think I will go to Eufaula if I go at all.

Fishers, you ought to be able to fill your boat with channels and blues! Not as good as crappie but still darn good eating.

Well fellers all this cold dirty water sure isnt gonna help any..first of all Tenkiller Crappie hate 2 things..dirty water for 1 and current is #2..seems we will be gettin them both..after the river settles out and the water starts to clear the lake stabilizes to steady or slightly falling the crappie will move back to spawning brush...but probably most of the fish have already layed their eggs in the upper end..there will be some stragglers forsure but the mad run and getting eggs all over your boat sides I believe will be a thing of the past in the upper end this year..just have to follow them down the lake..Last Wednesday I fished down the lake and went all the way to Chicken Creek down the north bank and back up the south,,the only fish I really found were south of Cookson Campground..caught some mighty nice momma's but were few and far between..and again the water temps were 5 to 7 degrees colder than the upper end..and the fish I found were holding in deep brushpiles at the mouth of coves in a prespawn mode..its gonna happen down the lake but not until the lake stablizes alil..just my 2 cents worth..off for the next 2 weeks now and the lakes are filling up..lol...just my luck..beats working

It worked out alright caught 26 with four going around 14 1/2 in. and the rest going over 10 in. caught them from 1 fow to 6 fow around docks with brush south of I-40 bridge about a mile. Water temp was 65.4 and caught them on 2'' rollie pollie minnow minder with pink jig head.

Tenkiller is done for. Corps are saying the lake will be 25' above normal come Monday morning. Trust me on this guys, this comes stay from the Corps hydrology section. After all, as of 7:00 pm it is already 11' above.

I agree the crappie fishing will be tough until the water level stabilizes, but until then I hear the channel cat fishing is very good in the heavy flowing creeks.

guess its unloading off the road somehwere now..this very samething happened 2 out of 4 yrs the lake got 25' to 30' high and we lost the spawn..thats 1 reason Tenkiller was in the shape it was and the CRAPPIE population suffered..The lake was jsut turning around and looking up and now it happenes again..the fish in the upper end of the lake had spawned or some had so maybe their fry will survive the high water and currrent..Now for the fish in the middle and further down the lake had not even cameinto the coves of shallow brushpiles yet and were holding in deeper brushpiles in a prespawn pattern so maybe they will move up and spew those yellow eggs when the temp gets right..but if the corps drops the lake as they are laying we will probably lose another yrs spawn and that will hurt this lake thats already hurting..

Well the 25' mark has been made and still forecast to rise atleast another 7-8' as of 7pm this evening. They are saying it will be an all time high for the lake. I think they just want to test out those new multi-million dollar flood gates is all.
