We had a blast catching sandies last night right before we pulled the boat out of the water. Final hour we just killed a bunch of two pounders (17") on crank baits. It was a lot of fun. If anyone is just looking for a fun place to catch a lot of hungry fish that fight hard. The Tenkiller coves are on fire right now! I was shocked at the size of the sand bass we were catching! ( (the rubber mallet in the cooler is just a size reference). Attachment 238000

Fished Tk for a few hours this afternoon. Fish are still biting. Caught females with eggs still in them and some that were getting rid of them as we caught them. Kept a few males for my mother to have to eat. Only kept 5 for her. Still catching them out of the brush and today we threw just about very color we had in the boat and it didn't matter what it was we caught fish. Water temp 72, 15-22 FOW just over the brush and in the top of the brush. Nothing deep within the brush.
You guys watch out. Beginning in mid-June Tenkiller will become my home lake. I'm sure there will be a huge learning curve - I'm already modifying the equipment I carry in the boat. If you fish weekends you probably won't see me. Hated the summer weekends (on the water) when I had my cabin at Cookson in the early 90s. Loved the winter up there! Can't wait!

Hey Kirk, how did you know I was working today. See this is how it is, you fish in the crowd on the weekends and I work. Then while your working during the week I go out and clean all your spots out. That's why your having such a hard time catching any....:biggrin

Had to leave them biting today. Went up the river and didn't do well so I made a run down lake a little. Caught some unders which is odd but had 10 super blacks. Wind was blowing and it took longer to get back on the spot after I'd make a trip to the live well. Fall bite is late but it's finally here.
Great time down there fishing Friday and Sat, fished from the Petit up to the bridge fri with only 4 fish, and then fished from the bridge to past carters Sat, with 7 keepers and several fish from 1 to 1.5 mostly from laydowns up in the river, found I need to concentrate a lot more efforts up there!! caught most fish up river in 2 to 6 ft, and the fish in the lake were around 18 for us, Baits I had the best luck with were bonehead Stumpbug in confetti, (small bait) and Travis Cottrell had some good luck on his own pours with chartreuse up river with it being a bit more stained.
Had a great time and thanks for sharing your boat with me again Darrell. I'll bring a short rod next time as I need to focus more on my light rod cast and drag. Also was great meeting you Slabs Inc. I need to get down on the south end with you some time.
Man what a great time Friday and Saturday with some awesome fisherman from Kansas and Oklahoma. Never a dull moment with this group. Fished Friday with Charlie and we ended p with 10 keepers all day with many shorts. Baits were small 1 1/4" bass assissins in pearl and pearl/black flack, crazy angler slab bandits in salt n pepper, and 2" bobby garland slab slayers in pearl and pearl truse.
Saturday I waited on Charlie to return but had a no show. By then everyone was either gone or had a partner. I fished that day by myself with terrible winds and ended with another 10 for the fry that night. Same baits as well.
I will say it was the maiden voyage for the New Huckabee 7' Carbon Fiber Dingo Rod. I was very impressed with the action, ability to detect the slightest bite in very windy conditions, able to cast a 1/16oz jig like a bullet, awesome backbone, light tip, and Tennessee handle which you can locate the reel to make this rod perfectly balanced. I also let several others use this rod during camp to get their feedback as well so I could pass it along to Ken. I can say it's an awesome rod and will be my new go to rod for cast n drag technique. My clients will now be fishing the Huckabee Dingo Rod in my boat. Awesome Rod.........Ranger

Quick trip after work. Only had 6 keepers but two were over 15", I've caught more unders than I ever have?? It's always tougher on me after the wind quits blowing. Sunday in the wind was fantastic but I had to leave and they were ON.
My son Daniel and I spent the last 3 days on Tenkiller. Temp 72 degrees DOW 10 caught from 6-8 on Hot Lightning which is the only color they wanted. All good fish From Carters Landing to Petit Bay. 2 were caught off of wood at 22 feet in Seizmore Creek. Caught 5-8 per day. They were glued to the wood. Double dip and cast and drag. Clearly the bite was tough and only a few on each wood spot. Greta memories to last a lifetime!

Are there any Crappie Docks on Tenkiller? I have not fished there in decades and have gotten totally out of the know.
Made a run to the lake this afternoon. On the water at 345 and off at 5. Kept these 5 for a meal. Caught several fish and missed a ton of them. Temp 68.3, DOW 14-20, Piles caught them cast and drag and vertical jigging. 1/8 jig pumpkin/chartreuse, blue/chartreuse pumpkin being the best.Attachment 252073

What a great crappie lake
Ran up to the lake this evening to see what our new brush piles might be holding. Well first off 3 of 4 piles put out are gone. I am pretty sure someone has been moving them on us. It's not a matter of not enough weight. I add about 150 lbs to each tree to make sure they stay put. The only one still in place produced nothing. Decided not to waste the trip, so we hit some piles that we put out about 4 yrs ago. On the water at 330 off by 6. Not a massive catch but did boat 11 and lost a few more. I'm curious how one would move a brushpile with that kind of weight on it? Sounds like a recipe for a good soaking wet hernia unless you were to latch onto it with a boat? People will steal anything...
I'm not sure how they may go about moving them, but keep in mind once an object is in the water it becomes a little buoyant and doesn't feel as heavy. This is not the first time this has happened to me. Just gets frustrating in the work I put out in trying to establish some fishing areas and someone else comes along and moves them. I scanned the area with side scan and they are nowhere to be found. Now granted the lake is low and I put these piles in 10 fow so they would be around 15-18 fow at normal lake level. Part of the problem is they were sticking out of the water about 3-4' when set. Yes that makes for easy access and picking, but hey it's all for the good of everyone. If you don't like where I put them then come out with me and we'll go set some where you want them and that way we can both get a good workout and not just me. Ok off the soap box.Quote:

I'm going down on the 20th for a week or two. Need to relax and get some strength back now that I'm over this crud. Missed everyone at crappie camp. I haven't had my boat on the water at 10Killer since Oct. Maybe if you are free one day you are down there you could take me out and show me how to do it. Not interested in your honey holes but I do need to learn the technique for a deep clear water lake.
