Fishing Is Heating Up
My Tournament partner fished the Killer yesterday catching 22 keeper crappie, keeping only 15 of those (his limit) in DOW from 8' to 20'. Baits of choice for that day was baby shads and slab slayers in several different colors. Had several bigger crappie pull of while trying to lift them into the boat. He also said he had many short fish as well.

Good to here my boat should be done at the shop this weekend!!! Thanks for the update Ranger!

Unloaded at 8:45 this morning and fished with my buddy Charlie. We had our limit at 1:45pm and closed the LW. We ended up with 42 keepers total and had some really big fish today. 5 over 2lbs...Baits were pumkin/chart slab slayers and silverfish minnow minders. Couldn't get them to hit much else for some reason. Wt was 64.3 when we started and got up to 67.2 when we finished up. The lake is still really low and tree tops are sticking up every where so becareful....Ranger

Good job Mark, I went last night on killer Now I wished I had called you! We're always missing each other on the water.
Found the fish and they were biting!! 2 different times I caught a double. Only fished up lake, launched at Cherokee. We have been catching some really nice fish! Bg blue thunder and patriot were working so well, I didn't try anything else.
-
Back on the lake unloading at 9:30 and having my limit of 15 before noon with 3 pigs between 1 3/4 and 2lbs. Wt was 65 today and fish were still relating to wood close to the channels. Caught somewhere between 30 and 40 fish total today. Slab Bandits was the only baits used today in sunperch colokr...Ranger
-
Now that's funny, our posts show the same time.
-
Went out again tonight, blue thunder still ruled the day for me, however after reading rangers post I did give the orange chartreuse a go!! Really nice fish being caught. Another double today, I love catching 2 at a time!
-
WT is still 63 to 64 degrees and the upper end has gotten off colored some. From Standing Rock up and my Tenkiller crappie do not like off colored water. We had 13 blacks and 17 whites today and closed the LW lid at 2:45. We caught about the same number of short fish today as well. Biggest today was 1.11lb which was a white and all the blacks weighed between 1.3 to 1.8lbs...had a few nice whites too in the same size range. Was a beautiful day to fish but I am already ready for shorts and flip flops again cause I hate to fish in bibs and coat. If you was throwing a Slab Bandit in pearl/truse today you was getting bit.....Ranger

Ranger, have never fished Slab Bandits, but have some on order. Can't wait to try em out ! Think they will work on Keystone?
-
Ranger is there anywhere in OK that carries the slab bandits?
-
Kirk I have talked at length with Robert Howell owner of Crazy Angler Tackle and he is trying to get his baits here locally. It would help if the local fisherman would talk with their tackle shops and have them contact him and have his baits added to their inventory. He has said he would send a box of samples to each shop ( I have provided several tackle shops that I use) so they can see his baits and try and get it started here in Oklahoma. He has several Pro Fisherman fishing for him and they have done well in the Nationals and Crappie Masters on his baits. Call Robert at 903-363-2506 and talk with him and give him a Tackle Shop addy that you would like to see his baits in......Ranger

Ranger, good information. I'll talk to the folks at Woody's Bait Shop and see if they are interested. Maybe mention it to Joann Sat.
-
I talked to lucky lure in Okc today, he said he had never heard of slab bandits. I talked em up told him to hurry up, guess I will call tommorrow and place an order!! Thanks for the info Mark. One last question are you using the 2.375 size?
-
Kirk I have both of course and use them both. Up on Gibson I have been using the smaller one since the shad fry is about 1 1/2" long and I have been doing well on it. Yesterday on Killer I used both sizes and it didn't matter which one I had on. But if you use the bigger size you need to up size your hooks cause a #4 crappie jig hook isn't big enough. I use the #2 hook all the time when I pour and it works well with the bigger size. Again it depends on what the crappie tells me which size I use.....Ranger

Just save some for me guys. Going through a very difficult time with my father right now and fishing has been put on hold until things get better.
-
Sorry to hear about your troubles Jiggin. I'll leave plenty of fish for you!! You might have to watch out for Ranger though! Just kiddin Mark.
-
Well finally made it to the water today! Fish were biting good, BGBlue thunder ruled the day, SSbaby perch was second. 18 to 20' of water was the ticket all day. I thought they would move up to the 10-12 but they never did? Fished from 82 bridge to petite bay.http://img.tapatalk.com/d/12/11/21/uteragab.jpg
Had 4 throw backs and the rest were pigs!

Was wondering if anyone else has caught one of these, it was attached to a nice crappie, caught it yesterday on Tenkiller
-
I have only seen one those before, were you up lake or down? I think it's a lamprey? But I could be wrong.
-
From what I found it is a lamprey, and it was up the lake
-
I catch them frequently attached to trout on the Norfork river in Arkansas. They can get pretty big, I have seen them up to 18 inches. It seems they like cool clear waters.
-
Yes I pull them of Crappie every year on the Killer. Some years are worse than others but we always see a few each year...Ranger
-
Fished on the upper end today and the water temp was 55.8 degrees with the water clarity just alittle off colored. Can't for the life of me figure out why it would be off colored since the lake is over 8' low and no rain to speak of. But the 1st day after a front had the crappie dug in deep and tight in the wood and if you dug over a pile wanting to get bit you was out of luck today. Find the thickest part of the wood on you locator and drop your bait til your line slacks. Pick it up a few cranks and hold it still, then drop it again to the bottom and try and hit a limb if you want a bite. Ended up with 22 keepers and about that many short fish but it was a tough day with slick water, blue bird skys, and the 1st day after a front....all making for a hard days fishing......Ranger
-
Was they in deeper wood ranger?
-
Well with the lake being 8 1/2' low there isn't anything that I put in the water thats deeper than 16' now....I fished some trees today in 35' to 45' and caught a few...But I would say if you could find something in the 16' to 24' DOW close to the channel break thats the ticket....Ranger
-
Great report Ranger! I am going this weekend and see if I can't get some more of those Dinks out of your way!
-
Went fishing this morning, rough sledding unless you wanted dinks or Magnum sandbass!! It was a terrific morning!! Ranger I have also wondered about the turbidity of the water the last few times. Saw a great school of fish, on FF looked just like crappie until I pulled up big old sandys! All kinds of Loons, grebes, and pelican still on the lake.
-
Kirk I really believe that the lake is turning over alittle. It had that smell to the water last Monday. Especially on the upper end. After you got below Pettit it kinda went away. I was also told that Gibson was doing the samething on the lower end but not for sure cause I haven't been on the water since last Monday nursing a Sinus Infection. I am ready to give the darn thing to someone else right about now. Has caused me 2 trips so far but thats life. The Loons will stay but the other birds will vamoose when it turns cold.....Ranger
-
That's a good thought Ranger, I figured that was already over but I know zip about lake turnover. Best theory I have heard so far!
-
Fished yesterday, bite was a little slow early but picked up in the afternoon, ended up with 23 keepers and about 50-60 throwbacks, most fish was caught on minnow minders and slab slayers
-
Glad you got into them!! I should be going this weekend thru the 2nd or so. With this cold weather I hope to find them stacked up!!! What was the water temp ?
-
I didn't even pay attention to what the temp was
-
Got on the water way late, caught a couple nice fish and figured out the plan for tommorrow! Took most of the time I had, to get away from the dinks. Water temp 45. Blue thunder was preferred today.
-
Kirk those dinks are our friends- the future of our mutual obsession. When I catch one I put an extra minnow in it's mouth and send it back home with good memories of our association. My intent is to train them to trust that I will always feed em and send em home to momma. So far I have built up a lot of good will among the youngsters but the payoff is slow coming.
