Hit the dock off the east side this morning for 2 hours. Lake is still way down allowing you to see all the trees and stumps around the dock. Made use of my new 4.5 ft Pro Angler Tackle dock shooting rod. Was shooting the the trees and stumps. Took 11 crappie with 6 being over 10" that I gave away to the old school there fishing with me. Pretty good for T-Bird in my eyes. Love the new rod. Going to have to check out there 8 ft and 10 ft rod one day.
if you liked shooting at the stumps you need to try shooting up under that dock from the boat. when they first put that there i killed the crappie by shooting that dock. once it opened and people started showing up it makes it hard to shoot under. i have had some luck early mornings doing that since then but never like that first couple of weeks before it was open to the public
That's on my to do list when I gets me a boat next year. Wonder what it would be like at night time with a couple floating lights off that dock?
I'm betting that hanging lights off that dock would work mighty-fine. But it'll be less effective as the weather cools. Should have been doing that all Summer! They bite better at night when the weather is too hot during the day.
I went out Sat morning and hit up the tower by Fisherman's Point, the grate at the dam, and twin bridges. None of which were very fruitful. How deep were they biting for you?
I would cast out and let the 1/16th oz jig fall to a count between 5-8 seconds then slow retrieve. Some of the trees I vertically jigged that I could reach with my 9 footer. Caught 4 anywhere from 6-8 foot deep on them. I'll be out there Saturday morning again early. Hopefully they'll be bitin again. Was fishing minners. If your out there stop by and hollar. I'll be in the black Browning hat.
Fished three hours this morning. Landed 8 myself and my friend landed 4. Fish were much smaller today. 4 were dinks, 7 around 9" and 1 at 11". They were all hugging trees. All vertically jigged except the last two I landed were cast and retrieve. My friend ended up keeping the ones around 9" and up. He was craving some crappie. If I had more time and more fishing patience with my friend I would have continued hitting the standing timber on the East side of the lake.
Looking to fish some crappie from the bank of dirtybird. Any crappie slayers got any tips about locations to fish from bank/lures to use etc.
Just got back from the Little Axe dock. It's great early in the morning until the crowd rolls in. Plenty of standing timber around it. I've had plenty success with casting, letting the 1/16th oz jig fall for a count of 5-6 seconds or so and then retrieving slowly. You'll loose alot of jigs this way but I've had the best success this way. I've also done good with a bobber here too.
I've had great success fishing the dam area. Only problem with it is you have to walk forever and then walk down the steep embankment. I usually cast parallel with the bank anywhere from 5 to 10 foot out and then slow retrieve it. Best to use a bobber with this or you'll hang up on the rocks all the time. I usually set the bobber around 2' - 6' depending on how far out I'm casting. I killed them like this in the spring. I'm thinking the crappie might be here now seeing the docks have slowed down but didn't have time to make it there today.
Crappie are biting good on minnows now.
These are the only two areas I'll fish from the bank at here.
Appreciate the feedback. Any luck at twin bridges over on alameda or Denver point?
