Well thanks for the feedback and advice everyone. Seems like I'm not the only one having a tough go of it on Tbird, but it appears there's still fish to be had. Armed with that navionics map linked in another thread and my fish finder, I ought to be able to track the suckers down sooner or later. When I do I'll be sure to follow up.
Managed to catch a couple 9-10" right around dark this evening trolling rat-l-traps under the twin bridges. The water was practically boiling with 1-2" shad from 7:30-8:30
Fished Thunderbird last night and came up with a dozen keepers fishing minnows 5.5-7 feet down. When the bite slowed down I would jig em using the bobber to help. Only 4 of them were real big and one was pretty small as it swallowed the hook. All between 5 and 7 in the evening.
Thanks for the report jshain. Glad to hear someone is finding them. I have been lazy and havent even tried. Let me guess, they were under the bridge?
They might have been but we were in the south coves. Tied onto a buoy.
I used to live 1/2 mile from T-Bird and about this time it seemed like the black jacks started looking a little worn out and in the mornings the air smelled like fall, and the crappie started to come out of hiding for me as a bank fisherman. On Saturdays it was tough to choose between golf at the empty OU course or crappie fishing. I got tired of making that decision so I gave up golf and probably added 10 years to my life! Glad you found some- now what do you do? Dove hunt early or catch the morning bite?
