Couldn't have said it better myself. 5 years back, I would fish it 10+ times a year. Got to know the lake pretty well. Ever since the fish kill (4 years ago now?), the lake has really been a disappointment.
I went there Friday with my dad. We fished about 5 hours, covering lots of water where we used to catch nice fish. Probably 60 crappie caught. Not a single fish over 9". Caught them every place we went too so they were biting. I've been averaging 1-2 trips a year for the past few years and it seems to be getting worse (though I admit my sample size has gotten pretty small in past few years). The lake was never known for big crappie but you could definitely catch a nice mess to take home every time.
Not sure what the solution is... Stocking more predator fish? Removing all size limits for a while? I think there are too many small crappie in that lake personally.
I am kicking myself because I saw the Ohio FW had a box at the ramp asking for feedback on the crappie there and I forgot about it when I was leaving. I see that as promising at least that they are seeking feedback. Hopefully they read crappie.com forums![]()
