I think John has the LCP, it's a nice little carry gun. The Shield and LC9 are also very nice. I prefer a 9mm as ammo seems a lot easier to find. A few places around me seem to have a hard time finding 380. Just last night at Walmart I picked up another 200 rounds for my 9. You may want to think also about where/how the gun could be used. I agree with having a smaller CCW, but you may want something a little bigger at home (capacity wise). The one I keep by my bed is a FNX-9 (17+1). It's too big for carry, but it's perfect for home defense. I'm heading to the range Monday if you want to try something a little bigger.

Yes on both accounts. LCP for my pocket and a 9 for the house. One nice thing about the LCP is the small size and combine it with a pocket holster it looks like a wallet in my pocket. One of the advantages is in summer even with shorts and tee shirt no one knows I have it. That's especially nice coming in to an empty launch ramp at night. Even though the pocket holsters are nice for summer, getting access in a hurry is a bit awkward. I much prefer something else at times that's easier to get too.
I almost bought an LC9 but I tried it 1st and it hurt my hand so I passed on the deal. Since I've had carpal tunnel surgery I don't have much grip and a full size 9 is much more comfortable to shoot.
Like you guys I didn't really want to carry and for the most part I resisted. I'm not a gun nut or anything but the world is just getting a little crazier.
...now back to fishing :popcorn

Like I said earlier, I can carry this even with shorts and a tee-shirt in 95 degree weather and you would never know. When carrying you do have to get used to putting your wallet on your left side so you have better access with your right hand. The gun does fit snug so getting it out of the holster is a bit cumbersome but I'm never going to win a quick draw contest anyway so that was not a concern for me. If you choose this holster you will also need this leather dressing. The holster new is stiff and hard but if you get this product and coat the holster, then put your gun in a plastic bag and push it into the holster then leave it sit overnight, it will change it into the finest, softest leather you can imagine. Just follow the directions.

There are times when I want a little better access and I'm wearing more clothes so just yesterday I bought this. This time of year I almost always have a sweat shirt on so this works for me.
One example of when that pocket holster just doesn't work is while fishing or hunting and I have my bibs or rain suit on. It's almost impossible to get back to it with all the extra clothes on.

There are a ton of choices out there and I think the real key is to find something that works for you and your situation. The only thing I know for sure is if your choice is too big and bulky you won't carry and that defeats the purpose.
On a side note I did add a Crimson Trace laser to the LCP...it was just too cool to pass up. The thought was if I really, really had to pull the weapon and they saw the laser on them hopefully the situation would end right there.
