    Default Dec 7, crappie report

I was out yesterday from 9 - 4 and caught 106. Kept 11 over 11" with 5 or 6 over 13". Overall the size was much bigger than what I have seen this year. I guess the big girls are getting ready for winter. The water temp was 41 - 42. I was in about 10 fow give or take a few either way. All fish were caught on swimbaits "slowly" reeled along the bottom. Everything was caught in community holes, but I was the only boat on the entire lake the whole day so I had them all to myself. Weather was perfect, no one else on the whole lake the entire day, fish were cooperating, it was Dec 7th and out in the boat..... what more could a guy ask for? Hope to do it again next week!

Nice job Jeff...congrats on a FINE day out!

I made it out today from 12 to 2pm...wind was not 5 mph, it was blowing and I couldn't fish my normal spots....fished a couple spots out of the wind. Caught 10 Crappie but the biggest was only 10.5....it was nice to get out.
    I may try again tomorrow.

They have 3 areas to cut wood if you want...beach area, MBR, and Marina...still alot of good solid wood...they took alot of shade trees, hope they replace them. No idea what they did except take all the good easy trees????
Man, that's alot of good cover, if they would dump it...that could help the Marina!lol
Only 1 guy was on the gas dock, one left earlier...must be slow!

I fished the dam this afternoon. I had the whole area to myself. I can't figure out why there weren't more of you guys out today!

I ended up catching about 14 crappie fishing between 15-20 ft deep using a bobber and minnows. Only one fish over 10".

Bites were very light - sometimes the bobber would barely submerge. Occasionally the bobber would only move sideways.

Well, I for one, took the time to mow my yard, mulch up all my sticks, leaves, etc., and wax my clean car that I washed on Saturday, plus I got all my Winter cleaning done...who would imagine in Mid December that it would be almost 70 degrees...what a beautiful December day! I love El Nino!

I have to admit this is the 1st year I've seen so many people cutting their lawns in December. I went fishing on Saturday and was going to cut mine on Sunday but a friend asked me to go fishing again on Sunday so it didn't happen. If the weather stays mild and the fishing stays good that lawn may just have to wait until spring.

I had all those good oak leaves from the woods, covering my entire front and back yard with all the other leaves and branches...all that nice Fertilizer was just laying there, I had to mulch it all up before the winds came! lol

Congratulations Doc and Co ! LOVE to see you do that with you on CJ ! If some blocks magically appear and got stuffed would bet the Park wouldn`t DARE to try to stop us ! We would be #1: saving them (and US the tax payers !) some money and #2; keep it inside the Park and not SPREADING the contaminated and infested wood to whom knows where while furthering our personal "interests". If only did 50...Debby DID let us go to 20 fow last round. Believe there was 1 or 2 mulberry trees in that too. Would a self propelled suitable craft be available to "splash" them ? A few could go right off the end of the NE red light corner of the steel breakwater, at winter pool it`s 14 fow there...if SAFE ice up occurs can just put them or shove them out on the ice and put a ring of 10 holed red bricks around them and pop a nice pretty hole with a primitive and slow but relentless solar powered blunt ice drills. Might take a week of sunny but just above zero weather but it`s effective and cheap upto about 8" of ice...am game !

    Where The Crappies Are
by Dr. Rob Neumann....Published in IN-FISHERMAN Magazine.
    For Educational Use only.

Telemetry studies can track daily movements and seasonal migrations of fish, with the use of surgically implanted or externally attached transmitters. Technological advances have produced miniaturized transmitters that can be carried by smaller fish like crappies, without limiting their movements. Transmitter battery life also is longer nowadays, extending observation periods from months to over a year. Telemetry studies on movement patterns and habitat use by crappies have provided the most detailed look yet into the lives of these fish.

    RESERVOIRS
Among the most recent crappie tracking studies, fishery biologist Ryan Oster of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources and a research team tracked both white and black crappies on Kentucky Lake, a massive reservoir on the Tennessee River famed for its crappie fishing. This study is unique in that it compares habitat use and behavior of black and white crappies inhabiting a single water body.
“During prespawn, both white and black crappies were most frequently found on flats adjacent to primary and secondary channels,” Oster explains. “The two species occupied similar habitats, though white crappies were located more often on deep flats (10 feet or deeper) than black crappies. River channels, both shallow and deep, were the next most utilized habitat for white (33 percent) and black (43 percent) crappies. Flooded shoreline brush and rocky banks did not attract either species during this period.”
