IF YOU HAVE THE TIME....when they shut off, go get a burger or drink, and come back in an hour or so...The Predators eyesight takes up to an hour to adjust for night time hunting.
Cool Water Predator fish (Walleye, Crappie, Smallies, etc.,) burn too many calories when the water gets above 80 degrees... they will suspend during the day in oxygenated deeper water, AND HUNT AT NIGHT...they hunt at night because it is cooler, and they all have different style of night vision or hunting abilities that gives them the advantage over forage. It also allows them to consume more Calories without full out exertion.
At night go for glow baits (use a battery powdered "LED ice fishing case charger") or lures that are darker color than the water, for contrast...Beetle spins, roadrunners, and vibration baits are good. It won't take long to find a Pattern and then, IT'S ON!
All of those tiny little Shad (Sushi) will move shallow for safety at night....if you catch it right, the night bite in shallow water will be a memory of a lifetime!:):):)
