Any ice updates on CJ from today is greatly appreciated. Most importantly the condition/thickness of ice. Thank you
That's why they call it Fishing and not Catching!
I will make the 24th breakfast
Yesterdays breakfast at Cracker Barrel was a good meet and greet even though we had only four show up.One can learn at these as we all give ideas on what works and doesn't work for us.There is another one planed for this next Saturday so those that can make it go as listening to Intimidator as to how and why he does what he does and expressing how and why you do what you do make us all better fishermen.Just remember spring is just around the corner!!!!!!
Talked to Rusty yesterday....5 inches of ice on main lake....8 inches in the Marina....3ft blow-up running from the overlook point to the beach....I cannot tell you if any was lost due to the warming temps yesterday and last night!
Oh almost forgot...Hey Doc, Rusty was tearing up Kitties for you yesterday!
Be careful out there!

I'm in on the Saturday January 24th....8am, Cracker Barrel, I70 exit 54!
I enjoyed talking with Paul, Jeff, and Bill...almost 2.5 hours....always good to see friends and exchange ideas...like Paul said, even I am still learning and improving. That's why I enjoy talking with Rusty and the boys out on the ice, you can learn from them when bites slow and fish aren't feeding heavy....relates to LATE FALL fishing.
Besides catching up personally with everyone and laughing at Bill's Dog, we covered a lot of good topics.
Things we talked about on the 17th relating to fishing...
1. How everyone handles alcohol in gas for their boats...plus non winterizing!
2. Good Boat Mechanics and places to work on them.
3. Techniques for Fall when the fish are full from eating 1 and 2 inch shad.
4. Vertical jigging with swimbaits.
5. The New Keitech Craws, how to use them, when, etc (I brought some).
6. Jeff dropping his boat on the ramp, and how he finally got it in the water.
7. How cover is doing.
8. Other areas to fish...getting out of the typical areas.
9. Changing old habits and relearning like the fish.
10. Sickle hooks.
11. New Lines and tackle
12. Pay-Lakers in boats...people always fishing the same areas.
13. Fishing swimmers at other lakes, States, etc.
14. Spring Fishing ideas and where to find them.
15. What Ice Guys have been doing!
I can't remember any more from laughing at Bill's Dog!![]()

Very nice list that you guys talked about, winterizing a boat is something I have never done as I fish all year long and that is 21 years of doing it, I don't go as much in the winter as the weather really effects me more now than in the past I'll see you guys on the 24th, currently I'm downloading the mapping that I have built on Cj it is awesome with this Insight Genesis program one of many reasons I use Lowrance products, hoping that I can get it completed this year....Doc
Creek Fished with Daniel from 1 till about 3....we mainly just wanted to take advantage of a beautiful 45 degree day with bluebird skies....was hoping to attract a Gator or Smallie in the creek but we managed to talk and play with the crazy flapper.
I was running the flapper with a 3/0 EWG Trokar...no added weight....the fall is super slow, with no weight the legs BARELY move...once you start the super slow retrieve, it comes alive.
I showed Daniel what it does on topwater...OMGosh...you can cast out and as soon as it hits the water slowly retrieve...it swims so perfectly all the way back on the surface....PERFECTLY!
I Found my new Surface bait also. ..you ought to see the wake it makes...that just made up my mind to buy the big ones for Night bass fishing....and it is weedless.
Included a couple pics.
Daniel and I decided to check the ice for others...I'm not a ice guy, but it doesn't look safe right now on the main lake...Alot of milk ice breaking close to shore, slush close to shore, ice that looks decent farther out, and then visible water and clear thin ice farther out with a "current stream" of thin clear ice running off the entire shoreline...
Please be safe and ask "true" ice guys when conditions may improve.
