One of my oldest friends stopped by last night to show me his afternoons work on the ice....he had been in a remote area of the ice and had a 25" Gator and twelve 12 inch Crappie....said he caught over 50 keepers and threw a couple 13 and 14 inchers back because they were growing eggs and he wanted them to spawn...
He sent me a couple pics, but it shows his location and I won't do that to him.
Some guys are doing good, while we are staying inside...I just can't force myself outside in Winter...I too, am praying for soft water, but some of our buddies are making me jealous and antsy! lol

The Japanese and their fishing companies are so far ahead of most US fishing companies,

So yes, you are right...there is certainly more than just throwing a swimbait or towing it behind a boat...and I understand!

Oh I see. I just took this statement "if I had to put live-bait under a bobber, troll, long-line, spider rig, etc, any way in which you are not controlling the bait yourself" on face value.
I was just merely pointing out that in each of those methods you do in fact have to pay close attention to detail too and exhibit good control in order to continually catch fish.
I have taken the time to learn most of those methods and I can do fairly good with them but my 1st passion is jig fishing. I like a variety of bodies but normally fish tubes, stingers and some swim baits but the swim baits normally aren't my go to.
I find it interesting that you feel the Japanese swim baits are so much better than other makes or styles. Some days it's hard to beat a Bobby Garland or a plain old tube bait. I'm going to put a little more effort into swim baits this year, a friend of mine just ordered me some Big Joshy's. He absolutely killed big crappies on them last year.

"...I need way more of a challenge to keep me busy and my mind occupied!" I tell everyone I have adult ADHD, I can't just sit there either. I've got to be throwing something at the fish.
You mentioned Doc and his catfishing...now there's a guy I've read all his posts I've seen for years. He's a true master. A few years back I remember his wife caught something like a 90# blue cat it was a monster.

I think most guys who like to fish and who have spent years on the water understand the fish fairly well. Understanding the fish is why they are successful.

All plastics ARE NOT created equal! lol
I'll be honest...there are many very good reasons why I use the plastics I do....nothing, and I mean nothing, has the action that these do...I continue to trial new lures and swimmers and their is nothing out there yet that comes close...grab a pack and see for yourself!
Also grab some MEND-IT...best plastic glue there is...it welds the plastic together and does not make it hard or stiff, so you lose ZERO action and extend the life of worn out baits, which saves even more money!

Doc and Lynn are good people, just like all the other people on here! We've got a great group of people who have really come together to form a bond of friendship, because of a lake!
