    Default Glsm 12/4/13

Channels finally were completely open after the recent cold spell. So wife let me go up before the next chill sets in. Plus it was a cheap birthday gift........

There were 4 of us and I got it started. Ended with 6 on the day but only 2 keepers. Oddly they were 10-15 feet out and not necessarily holding to cover. Pops had 2 but 1 was a keeper, and the other guys added 1 keeper and 2 dinks. One guy got blanked on the slabs but he didn't care as he was getting bluegills on almost every other cast. They were closer to structure but still we all felt like we were casting than more of a vertical jigging approach. All in all, probably as a group ended with around 50 landed. Bite was there but very light. Really had to watch the bobber as you never really felt the fish take it. It would move like an inch or so in a different direction.

Sorry no pics this round but I did catch the biggest, 10.75" The others were barely over the 9" limit.

Could have been the new BP medicine I'm on, Thanks Mr. Obama, but had one hell of a dream last night. Was on GLSM fishing 1 of the 7 honey holes we now have and just got into a monster. Felt like a 4-5 lb bass on light weight braid. Felt like I fought it for 5 minutes before I could even get it with netting range. This is the nightmare portion, no NET within reach!

So I had to lift it out of the water and got it to the surface but couldn't one hand it out. Between the fighting and the weight and light tackle, I had to use two hands to swing the pole and fish up and over the seawall. After filling my drawers, my wife said she heard a really loud "pfssst" in the middle of the night, the lure came loose and the monster slab started flopping towards the end of the seawall. Luckily I was able to lightly tap him with my foot into the grass away from the water....... Think of the most pissed face your wife could make and put it on this bad boy. 2+ lbs, 15 inches, and I think in the dream it even had eye brows. but on a thick and long crappie body.

I hope it wasn't a dream but a premonition of my 1st Fish Ohio catch.

Oh and the misses said shortly after the "pfssst" she heard me say 'Whoo whoo!" and I punched the head board.

I like these new pills I think

That was pretty funny! GLSM sounds like it may be coming back to its glory days in the next several years. It may happen.

I try guys...... did have a couple people up there earlier in the week to Ice fish and they slayed the gills. ONly a few Crappies but nothing to keep. Small ice jigs and waxies. I wonder if minnows would have done better but I won't know. My butt is stuck on a couch for the next few weeks with a bum knee. Turns out my dream will have to be just that until ice out as I'm not going to wreck it again.

12-17, two other guys hit our channel to ice fish and said ice was about 4" think and clear. Not an Ice guy so not sure what that means. 20+ holes but only one really produced a decent bite.

They did end up with 25 keeper gills but no crappies. Seemed to be in the middle of the channel not holding to any detectable structure.

Doubt with the rain and temps that ice will last long. I hope to get up there Sunday once the rain is done but before the cold temps return. Wife has a different plan, aka shopping, if nothing else at least I can parlay it into a trip to BPS!

Still think minnows would be better than wax worms.

Pops and a cuz went up yesterday. Ice had shrunk and only 1.5" deep. Easy for them to break up but not to walk on. Even though gettin colder, if we could get some sun, it would melt more but Bet this weekend you can walk on it again. Ice guys have fun. Pops said he had a good fish on but didn't fight like a crappie is a bit of open water. He hoped to get it to the surface, thinking one of the new Saugeye, stocked a couple years ago. Channel looked like coffee and cream, where creek fed channels looked very muddy.

Quite different than last time I fished2.5 weeks ago. He could have been able to ID it then. Said some decent sized shad were trapped in the ice and a few others doing the "final go 'round'".

They have been in there for awhile but I think they did stock a bunch last year. I hope that improves again. We used to catch a bunch of them through the ice.
