    Exclamation Affordable Health Care Act

I need to get health insurance, I would really like a third party that isn't interested in selling me something to help me make a VERY difficult decision, as an independent plan I know I will have to go with a high deductible to make it " affordable" which it will not be as I already live paycheck to paycheck. I almost feel as if I need a guidence counciler for my life. I have a few doctors as customers but they act as if they don't want any parts of that talk. I feel in the dark and like I'm being force fed something I am not even sure I understand. I'm just a guy that works his hardest and carries his fair share of caluses. Unfortunately I don't have an HR dept to talk with... Guess I should throw in the towel and go to work for a big company where these decisions will be made for me. I guess my next step will be talking to State Farm who handles my Auto/boat/& life insurance.

If anyone has any advice or experience to share it would be greatly appreciated as I don't know much outside of the world of horticulture/hardscaping and fishing hahah. I guess you could call me ignorant.

I wish I could help, but I'm in the same boat. My boss gave me the heads up that she's retiring in two years. I've been looking at going on my own and just doing the EIFS inspections. Best price I've found (remember I'm 60) will cost me $1200.00 a month. That's with a high deductible and combining with professional liability insurance the same company at another 5000.00 a year. Hate to say it but my best bet is to wait for a layoff from the people who buy her out in two years, I know who they are and know they will do it. Then I can collect unemployment and all the other gimmethat stuff from the government until I'm old enough to collect Social Security. That's if there's any money left there by then. Good luck!

Ummmm govt is threatening to shut down tonight but first day of enrollment for Obama care starts tommorrow, sounds like another venue to steal money from.... If the people revolted against the tax on tea in 1773 why isn't anyone up at arms right now? I mean protest, petitions etc... Has everyone layed down and just accepted it? I haven't talked to one person that is happy about what this country has come to but yet no talk of impeachment??? There has been revolutions over less. Hope the Feds don't beat down my door tonight for what I've said.

I won't let this thread turn into political bashing (although they deserve it) but Bennett has a legitimate problem that millions more are going thru right now. Sorry I can't help as I fortunately don't have to go thru that. Hopefully someone can help. Let us know how you make out Bennett.

If I was in your shoes prior to Obamacare I would just get a major medical policy. Since the monstrocity is there I would say to explore it and the new exchanges but one of the networks had one of their staff try to do it yesterday and they gave up after getting nowhere in 30 minutes. Maybe once they get all the bugs worked out you can check it out. What's not being advertised though is that those that do not sign up for insurance will have to pay a fine but I am not sure when or how they would collect the fine.

IRS will make sure You pay the fine if You don't purchase insurance. I got a letter in the mail that My current policy that cost me 13 grand a year will no longer be available. the policy I can get that is closest to my old one is around the same price. My deductible will be pretty much cut in half but co pay on prescriptions which we use with my Wife's asthma and severe allergies heavily, is going to crap. That is the part that does us most good and the only reason to be paying for the high cost insurance. If I drop to a lower plan to afford the medicine, I lose control of the Doctors I and She have available to us. I'm paying the same for less. So much for health care getting cheaper. I am also waiting for the ramifications on my income taxes as I use to deduct my insurance premium from my income. heard I may not be able to do that now and that will put me up into a higher tax bracket. I am about to get a lot poorer Folks we just got soaked.

Bennett, Go talk with Your local auto insurance provider like You mentioned. They will be able to help You and point You in the right path. There are also supposed to be "brick and Mortar" exchange locations to help people get signed up. I have yet to hear of where one of these beasty's are located though.Your insurance provider may be able to help with that. I don't know what Your income level is and don't want to but if you are under $58000 you are supposed to be qualified for subsidies to help defray the cost for You. I think If i heard right, under $30000 for a family of 4 would be pretty much free.CF

I'm lucky I have very good insurance that is 100% employer paid. If they stop coverage, I hate to say it, but I'll become a expat and move my tail to Costa Rica or panama.

This whole thing is a scam... Nothing about it is affordable, the "care" will be only the bare minimum, and they will ACT like its the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I am 64 and was laid off. I tried to find a full time job but hard to compete with the 40+/- year olds in the market now. I found out that the local grocery store offers benefits for part time workers, I have applied there, crap i can bag someones groceries for insurance.

There's going to be a little more to it than meets the eye I can assure you of that. I, like some others on here am without medical coverage, but fortunately I have VA medical benefits... but I have been looking for an affordable plan to get additional coverage for me and my wife. I have been dealing with an independent broker who has been giving me rate quotes over a period of about a year now. I was informed yesterday: The new laws that are now newly acquired parts and parcels of the "Obamanation Plan" now require all health care providers to cover 10 (newly) required government mandated areas when selling any healthcare coverage in the United States; plus pay a much higher tax rate and accordingly private carrier coverages (too) have increased nearly 60% lately due to these new government mandates.

This new plan is clearly going to backfire in the governments faces at some point in time... and it's going to cost way more for people to have it than it has ever before. I think all these SOB's have lost their freakin' minds myself... and this shutdown crap is nothing more than some more political grandstanding.

Well I think problem #1 is politics should be more like jury duty. It shouldn't be a career, one or two terms then move on. They have lost touch with the common man... Not bashing just stating my opinion. The two party system is dated and its a big game of comprimise, the lesser of two evils..
