Preparing Chains .

Found some 1/2 inch dozier chain . what lengths should I make them . Figure to cut in 6 ft. sections and use "dummy links " to add more as needed . Should the add on pieces be shorter ? No experience with chains in wind .

5-6 foot length of chain should be fine. You want to attach them to a good piece of rope about 25-30 feet long. Drop your chain overboard and adjust the speed of your boat by shortening or lengthening the rope.

Put knots in adjustment ropes every 10 feet to be able to evenly adjust each side...not my idea...someone's idea I had read.Does work good.

Length of the rope definitely plays into effectiveness. That being said I've found that 1 rope with 5' of chain is often not enough on the real windy days. Two will do the job but I also like a 10' chain on 20' of rope just as much or more.

I do run two sets of chains 5’ long
