I use a countersink drill bit to keep the gelcoat from popping loose, and it will if you don't, then after predrilling the hole the correct size put a drop of oil in the hole. The heat generated from putting the screw into fiberglass can cause the fiberglass resin to seize the screw and then it will strip the head or break off.
