    Default Chainsaw Update


    I checked the spark arrestor screen and it was clean. emptied the fuel, checked the fuel filter, refilled with fresh fuel. Cleaned the carb with carb and choke cleaner. Pulled the spark plug, did a compression test, 120 psi. Seemed a little high but I don't know what the proper range should be. Put every thing back together and the problem is still there.. I'm not sure but its possible the fuel line is leaking just under the carb. I saw a little moisture but not sure if it was leftover carb cleaner or gas. They both taste the same to me. I'm going to try a new fuel line this weekend after going to the Grizzly show. If that doesn't work, I think I'll take it to my one armed chainsaw mechanic.

    they need 120 psi minimum to run right so no 120 is not to high. how long has it sat? may need to clean the carb and kit it.

    ok i ran across your other thread. sounds like you may of sucked some crap into the carb. pull the carb clean it real good and blow it out put a new kit in it. it is not that hard to do and i would also replace the fuel line and filter just as part of maintenance n it.

    It hasn't sat long at all. I used it to drop an oak tree and it ran great. I cleared all the branches and began sawing the logs into firewood. I had the tree about half sawn up. That's when it died like it ran out of gas. I filled it back up and it hasn't ran right since. It will start with the choke on then die. When I switch the choke off, it will run for a few seconds and die.

    Very common problem with the carbs on the 2 strokes. Put a kit in it since you ave it apart that way your replacing the metering diaphragm and the fuel pump diaphragm. the kits most of the time come with a new inlet screen. Been working on these things for 50 years it is what I do for a living.

    Wish I could help ya Speck, but I don't know nothing about mechanics, except to change oil, plugs, and keep your gas fresh and treated with stabil.

    During work hours a coworker would clean/check any 2 cycle product, most of the time get it running for $20. If any parts needed you get them, not him. I had 3 units checked by him, fuel line for one. Another coworker welched on his offer since it was on company time. He spent $80 to get his $90 weed eater running at a local shop. He returned complaining. Well, you could have saved $60.
    One thing I did learn was to have some gas and a paint brush to clean around the fuel cap, compressed air to blow away any fiber dust before removing cap.
