Anyone want to do a Butla workday?
Don't get me wrong, I've hauled truck loads to other lakes in the past. Never see anyone else bring what they will work with, depending on the COE for material. If you or a neighbor, someone you don't know is clearing a flowerbed of shrubs, clearing a fence line, clearing land. Load your truck down and bring it. Doesn't matter what it is fish like it.
Years ago at Butla, Elbow creek. Someone anchored a boxwood shrub. A kid was fishing it with minnows when I got there. Dropping his hook down the center and hauling out hogs. 30 floats around the shrub and not the first bite. Shows placement is the key.
Nader, Turkey creek. A flowering pear tree was lying against the bank. I was dipping my minnow 12" deep. By the roots I caught black crappie, by the green leaves I caught white crappie, by the trunk I caught nothing. My cooler was filled, nothing under 2# and my best white 3 lb 4 oz and a 2 1/8 oz black. A week later my son and I return. Water is up some so we fish a bit deeper. 16" was the spot. The limit was 10" at that time. We left with 2 coolers full of a lot of 11" fish. He beat me on big fish, his best on crappie that I know of 3 lb 1 oz white and 2# black. Yea, he's a green fisher.
