Thread: Stripers in the Rez/ Where now?

Hahaha, my brother came into town and I haven't been back out. I only caught those stripers pushing cranks off of the ledge out from the fannin flats. I didn't have much luck for crappie in goose lake out from the weather station but I did hear of some good reports from that area.

Who would want to tangle with them critters?? Get enough grief out of catfish, I often wonder which will be the 1st to snap my trolling rods like a twig, a cat or stripe? Why I prefer mono, I overlook my drag sometimes

I sure wasn't looking for them, but they found me! I enjoy catching them the few times that I have but that was always casting jigs and rattle traps into the school when they would push the shad schools to the surface and go nuts. It sure was a different story pushing cranks. They made quite a mess of things! Still enjoyed the surprise but that's not quite the technique I would prefer to catch them by. They surely put a load on those PST's

It's something different to do, and obviously not as easy as it sounds... Big lake, and schools that don't sit still long make for an interesting game of hide and seek! And, the more I catch, the less you will have problems with...

Fair enough, sounds like they are a blast to catch and can be a workout once you get into them. I did a little research and found two good articles, you probably have already read them. There are two guys I would try to get in touch with if I was serious about stripes on the Rez. One is Bobby Cleveland and the other Brad Chappell, may not hurt to take a guided trip with bchappell and let him teach you about graphing the schools, techniques he uses etc. I don't know either one of these gentlemen, and by what the article says there are not a lot of guys chasing stripes down there. So I'm sure the folks who chase them aren't as tight lipped as crappie and bass fishermen. Anyway, good luck today, hope you catch a boatload, here are the two articles.

They won again today, but I will find them before long. The black bass were schooling and busting shad, and I thought I had it figured out. But, it was the wrong fish... So, we will be back out there tomorrow, and trying again!

Still a good day buddy, beats working that's for sure. You will find them, sooner or later, it's the pursuit that counts. If it was me, I would be trolling (pulling) crankbaits all over the Rez.. you can locate most any type of fish with this method. Y'all aren't even restricted to 4 poles per person are ya? I would pull 8 poles solo if I could (restricted to 4), least till I figured them out, colors and depth etc. Then once located you can more target specific fish then, presentation, bait etc. Good luck, don't give up!!

They are some fun to catch plus good table fare if cleaned properly. Just got to leave all the red meat on the carcus n cut the blood line out. I've had 4-5 on at the same time by myself pulling cranks. Had 2 each of 8,12 and 16 foot poles out wjenI ran through a school at Lost Rabbit. I loosened the drag and took them on one at the time, got 3 in the boat. Alll we're over 8 pounds. Just got to take your time n not panic. These ain't white bass on a short line, they'll stay out there so you don't get tangled unless you rush them in
