I am asking for prayers for my family as we morn the loss of my wife's Grandfather, Clarence Hewitt Underwood. He was a true man among men, the kind of man who made you want to be a better man yourself. 91 years old, and was healthy enough to keep moving till his final days. He was married for 70 years with three children, 3 grandchildren, and 4 great grandkids. He served our country valiantly in the Pacific theatre of WW11 ferrying men and materials onto the beaches through some of the most carnal invasions. He stared down the breach of islands such as Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the mainland during our occupation. He was the kind of man who happily kept his nose to the stone and made sure his family never wanted for anything. I only knew him for a shade less than a decade and he made an indelible impression on my life and I will be a better man for it. We may all only be but shadows and dust upon this great world but the way we choose to live our lives will influence others and change the world one way or the other for generations to come. This man, like many of his generation, left the world better than he found it and as such we all owe them debts of gratitude.
Fair winds sailor, may the seas forever follow.
