If I had to fish with socks I would just go home, I despise them but I learn to spider rig in the river and a creek. Socks hang up, gave to two I had away.

For those with money, and no logging chains, I have heard some just by Anchor chains, which are rubber coated.

River I fish in is 35 to 50ft deep, no stumps in sight, its a tool, chains are tools, I use different sized anchors to slow my drift but then again my boat came with the assortment, I didnt have to invest in them.

Try rigging with socks in 2ft to 6ft of water, and you will soon change your tune!
