I've only used the large the past few years. My reason was eyesight tho.

My take on the snap catching the fish fairly often is that when a fish hits the bait Head On, they either pull the pole down and get off because they never reach the hook gap, or the snap grabs em. Both things happen at Washington and several other lakes a lot.
