Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.
The sheep live in fear of the wolf but in the end it's the shepherd that eats them.
The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes click when it is supposed to go bang and
a gun the goes bang when it is supposed to go click.
Can you show us a picture of this ball bearing your talking about. There has to be a way to rig it where it can't do that. I have one of the little off shore boards and it will pull cranks just fine. My problem is getting braid to stay in the clip until you want it to release.

The slit in aft portion has a couple of ball bearing to hold line. 30 pound braid comes through easier than I would expect. Perhaps some 10 pound mono might work. Like the security of the braid.

Take a big snap swivel and snap it in where the ball bearing is. The ball bearing will hold the swivel and the planer will slip down your line to a big barrel swivel with a bead in front of it. You can also put a SS keychain thing where the ball bearing is and attach a big snap swivel to that.
