Default Opti and yellow bird planers

Looks to like yellow bird planer boards are same as the opti boards except for color. Releases look the same too. 18.92 at wally world online including rattle flag. Hard to beat that price. Tempting.

Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

My yellow birds are made of some sort of foam material with no flags and a large wire out-riggers sort of deal. I personally don't like them but bought them to compare to others.. My Optis are plastic with flag kits. They work great and hold up well to the abuse I put them thru.

Hey "MrDux", those yellow birds are some of the first generation planers made by Bob Shirley back in the 90's.
The newer ones are now being made by another company who bought the company from Bob as I understand it.
If they are like mine, they work just fine for walleye and salmon, but not as good as my Offshores and Church boards.

Gomer, get the Opti mini. Just the right size for crappie and a lot less strain on your tackle.

Never tried the Opti mini but the Opti Medium works very well for crappie.

Got some. Hate that they don't float. Also I fear that my 8 pound braid will pass through the ball bearing on the rear. I want to set mine up so the line releases from the front clip and goes down the line to the bead and swivel so I don't heve to mess with taking the planer off. If the line comes through the rear setup it will sink.
