As a rule, I'm generally opposed to laws. The more laws we have the more government there must be to support the laws. It makes my dream of a smaller, less intrusive government less likely. And blah blah blah and yada yada yada...

    BUT

This is one rule that's not a bad idea, in principle anyway. Nobody wants them things flying around.

My concern here is over its enforcement. What I mean is that bait taken from the spillway is going to look a whole lot like bait taken from the lake. Other than banning shad for use as bait on the lake, I don't know how they'd determine an enforcement policy. And I would be opposed to banning shad. I keep a cast net on my boat for the specific purpose of picking up shad while I'm trolling. Free bait is good bait.

So, surprisingly, I'm not opposed to this suggested rule, but I'd have to withhold support until somebody told me how it would be enforced.

Probably, we'll just end up with big ole carp jumping at us while we're on the lake.

I probably have used them. Probably have some cut up in my freezer now, ha. But only time I use shad is for cut bait. Only time I use live bait for cats is for tabbys and then I use mudcats.

Stickers, I say me and you are pretty surely not to blame for any carp infestation.

The only reason I know I've never used them in the lake is because I only catch bait at the spillway when I'm going to one of the rivers, and I never use live bait for that. All those shad go into ziplock bags and sit on ice until they are either used or thrown in the river at the end of the day...not the bags. Those are washed and put in the truck for reuse.
