the season in MS runs from may till july 15. Blues and hump backs start to spawn first and flatheads begin after they do. The lakes warm up faster than the rivers we fish in, so folks that fish the lakes may catch a flathead late in may but for the rivers it's usually mid-late june before you'll find a flathead in a log in north central MS.
