Anyone have an idea what an AC compressor would cost for a 3 ton unit? The unit model number is Brcq 0361bd.
Biggest crappie to date is 3 lb 9 oz at grenada in 1988. Still hangs on my wall.

600.00 to 800.00 roughly for just the compressor. Then labor to recover freon, flush system, install new compressor, charge and check. Labor usually roughly same as part cost. That looks to be a Coleman part. Is this a package unit that has everything outside and air ducted into the home? If it is and compressor is truly bad because it came apart inside, by the time you paid for compressor and labor to do all the flushing and install you would be better off replacing entire unit.![]()
Another thought as I just replaced my whole unit....All I needed was a new A frame coil ....but did not consider replaceing the coil because R22 freon is not available anymore and if you do find some in storage somewhere it is way expensive. So I changed my whole sytem out to what takes the new re- frigerant. And it works good and my power bill is a lot less now too.

Just be careful what you buy and who you buy it from. I bought a similar unit couple years back for a rental property that was being renovated. Long story short, had my nephew not been a heating/cooling contractor I would have been screwed. The precharged lines were 30 feet instead of 50 feet, the fittings were wrong for the unit, no thermostat and the unit needed a special microprocessor based thermostat.
Yes, I saved a lot of money but I had a helper with the right tools and equipment as well as a fully stocked truck. The company selling admitted that the 50' was a misprint, no thermostat is how they were selling but nowhere in the complete system add was that mentioned. The refused any make it right and would not allow a return of IMO a falsely advertised product. Yes, you can save monye if you get the right stuff!
Thanks for the replies. I found a local place that's going to replace whole unit for 1360.00 tax and all. Same kind of unit I have now. My unit is 15 years old. They only had 3 r22 units left and won't have anymore.

Yeh.....and then if you have a leak and need R22 your going to be in trouble...like I said earlier the govt took that off the market.....thats why I replaced with new type unit.

Heard some people are charging 100 bux a pound for r22. When working on a unit.
Had a small leak in mine and fixed it. Had installer come out and charge it. 125.00 for 1 1/2 lb. I can get it in single 1 lb cans because I have a license for 63.00 a can. But that was 2 years ago. Don't even know if you can get it like that now.
