    Depends on the boat, on a 14 foot jon boat I would say LARGE!!!!!!!!!

    did you notice the max hp rating on the nameplate. i would want something close or right on the max hp rating...on a 17+ foot boat i would probably call it small. most of them i see got 90-115, with some in the 50-75

    Windstone is right......I had a boat one time rated for a 70 and it had a 50 on it....never did like it.....all my other boats since then I have used the max rated motor......just performs better.

    I'd get a bigger motor too, but the Merc. 40-50-60 efi motors are great.

    I have a bass tracker with a 75 2 stroke but I would trade for a 50 4 stroke. You will lose some speed them 4s are super quiet.

    would have kept mine but was going to have to put larger cmc jack plate and pods . Since I moved even a boat that size is not needed .

    I HAVE A MERC 4 STROKE 60 ON MY 17.5 FT TRACKER WILL EASILY DO 40 AND THAT IS WAY TO MUCH SOMETIMES . QUITE AND I HAVE NOT HAD ANYPROBLEMS OTHER THAN I BROKE THE PROP ON SOME ROCKS . GREAT MOTORS .
