    Default could have been devastating

Have cooked fish for over 50 years with no problems... Decided to have some fillets and French fries. Cooked as usual on the stove in the kitchen. When I dropped the fries in , the grease overflowed and caught fire...Flames were over 3 feet high...caught the venthood on fire...first reaction was to put water on it...NOT on a grease fire...Did not have the lid out where I could smother it...could not get to it quickly.... I DID have a fire extinguisher handy...My wife and I have argued for years about having one in the open...not hidden out of view.....Had a bunch of clean up. Vent shorted out...OTT everything is ok...Bottom line....no matter how old and experienced you are... Follow simple fire precautions...I was very lucky not to lose my house....

Glad you were able to prevent major damage. Having a fire extinguisher in view is something we all should have no matter how out of place it may look!!!!!

Sorry to hear about your Accident. Glad it wasn't worse than it could have been. Here is a extinguisher everyone should have. Works on every kind of fire with out the mess. Safe for electrical fires also.

More expensive but worth it in the long run if you have to use it.

Glad all is well. I now EXACTLY how you feel, and it's not a good feeling. We had the same thing happen years ago trying to fry a blooming onion in a pot...grease overflowed, caught fire and spread all over the place, and ruined our vent hood. Were seconds away from calling the fire dept., but we ended up putting it out.
