You know that's just a Trademark, not a patent! Trademarks are nothing, even I have a trademark on the "Crappie.com" logo.

I'm no attorney, but I don't think anyone can patent this idea, its just been around too long and in too many forms. I love Donnie and sure do hope this does not negatively effect him, and I don't think it will. His is high quality, not a big box mass produced item. This may very well be good for his business letting the public know more about fishing for Crappie this way.

Anyway, minnow teasers, or flies have been used forever. Call them Gnats or Minner Critters, or now Skillet Fillers. Just like Takeum says, kinda surprised none of the big box stores don't have them there targeting Crappie fishermen. And hey, at least it's Arkie doing it, a company that supports the site. Maybe they work something out, maybe they do something like they did with ScottV and name some after Donnie styles/colors. Maybe Arkie just gonna make ScottV and Donnie famous. You never know. I would not rush to judgement guys. Hang in there, it'll all be good.

I remember back in the day when the first tube jigs hit. They were all the rage with the Super Jig. Everyone now makes plastics, and I don't know a single fisherman that doesn't have boxes full of their favorite brands and colors, and all of the makers are doing well. Plenty of room to grow the market, and still make lots of $$$$$. Increase the demand and it'll increase sales for ALL those that supply that demand, just like the tube business did. The QUALITY products will survive and prosper.

All the small company has to do is build a better product at a better price. Disaster averted. Nothing has stopped Crappielogic from mass producing these.

Google "Clouser" or "fly minnow" and you'll see all sorts of similar jigs. Not specific to Crappie though. Donnie brought it to the Crappie, at least on Crappie.com and in MS, and they ain't been the same since!
