    Default Planer boards

Well guys I have spent the last week learning to use planer boards. I can say they are easy to use and a lot of fun. I recently got some crappie reaper boards to use along with off shore boards mini's and or 12's. After using all of them I am sold on the crappie reapers. These little boards float high on the water and are extremely easy to use. The price is right at $30 for two of them. These boards are built by a member of crappie.com and are being built on the crappie shark design by Mr. Bishop. Jeff who makes the crappie reaper has been to MR. bishops shop and learned some of the ins and outs of building them as Mr. Bishop is no longer going to build them commercially.

Hopefully Jeff will become a sponsor of the site also.

These little boards worked flawlessly in rough water and calm water. They enabled me to turn a whole lot quicker than without using them for sure. As long as they are spaced good in between them you can turn sharp and they will form a train formation and when you straighten back up they will reform the Vee formation. Enjoy the pix from our week of vacation.

Hope this helps someone else on there decision to use them. We could have cranked without them but I wanted to learn to use them for other times and applications.

They look identical to the sharks. You were using cranks with them?

Yes I pulled cranks and they ran great. The nice thing is they work great or pulling jigs at much slower speeds unlike some of the other boards that want to sink at slower speeds. I pulled with them 1.5 up to 2.1 mph just to see how they performed. I have also pulled with them using jigs as slow as .4 - .5

Great report on the planer boards JW. I hate it that y'all drove all the way down to Okatibbee to fish a day when they just weren't biting. It was good to see you again though.

Scott the pleasure was all mine as we got to see some beautiful country and your home lake. Okitibee sure is a gem for sure. Only wish we could have visited some. Maybe next time.

JW maybe you could explain what you do when you get a fish on the outside board. How do you get it in without crossing the others. I have had problems with that. I think them boards need a release clip in the front and a eye hook in the back so you can release the board and it will slide back an come to the surface with the fish so you can get over the other lines.

Wilbur we use longer rods in the front 10-11ft, and get shorter as you go back, and have not had much problem with the outside boards, have used them for 7 or 8 yrs or more

Hard to reach the board by yourself on a long rod tho. It forces you to pull the line in close to the others if it doesn't slip off the front clip. Like when using the tattle flag.

Great deal on these for you guys interested. I used them yesterday next to the more pricey boards and they worked just as well for about half the money, and you can see the green color much better than the yellow or red. These come with the working tattle flag, and they are only 12.99 with a stationary flag. The parts are interchangeable with the yellow boards.
