Headed up to Norfork yesterday to pull with a friend. Though I would throw my 997 in and piddle with it while waiting for crappie. His wife was going so I was just gonna sit in the middle and measure 'em and throw them in the livewell. Turns out somebody felt they needed it more than I do. I had it in my garage. Seems one of the major professions around these parts is "Spottin' steel". They spot it during the daytime and steal it at night. Had it rigged on a piece of plywood and the 'ducer was on a clamp on bracket so I could move it from boat to boat. (5 boats- 1 side imager) Ran it off a 7 amp gel battery that I bungied down.. Was real handy. Perhaps a little too portable. Bad thing is that I waited until Brian and shut up and fish ran out of the good deals. My best deal seems to be either an 899 for 999 or a 998 for 1149. I don't mind old technology. Heck! the 997 did everything I wanted it to do. My 597 isn't Ethernet ready anyway. Sorry for the rant but I wish they would allow us to just shoot thieves if we caught them. Just a couple of years would be enough. By then they would all be dead or have found a different line of work...like banking or selling cars.

The 899 didn't have the 800 ducer when I looked last. Also ebay scares me. Bought lots there but wonder about warranty when you buy from off the wall dealers. Rees I really don't figure I have troubles. I can spend lots of money to chase fish I could buy for next to nothing. I want for almost nothing that I don't get. We are all pretty lucky. PS... Creek, my friend James has a set of your rod holders. Makes me want to throw my driftmasters away. Just pray that he doesn't start fishing greers. If he does there won't be any crappie left in it!!!!!

Sorry for your loss Gomer.I'm still waiting on restitution from the people that stole all my trolling poles and finally got caught. I've got everything on lock down from that lesson!Hope they catch em sooner or later!
