My last house got hit in 2011. Blew a 6' hole in the roof, split the main beam on the hip, shorted down the 220 circuit and took out the kitchen appliances, smoked the house alarm, tv's etc...$24k later insurance was done replacing everything. In 2012 got hit again...minor damage. So I went out and got 4 - 10' long 4" steel pieces of conduit and some heavy copper wire and built the mother of all lighten rods. I know the rod got hit at least once before we moved. Only thing I can think is we were the highest house in the area w no trees to break down the static in the air. Crossing fingers with the new house we are in now
