    Default Minnow Question

Say you fish one day and have minnows left. The second day you need to get more minnows. What's the best way to add minnows to your bucket without them dying due to temp difference. One day at Grenada last spring I added minnows to my bucket and when I got on the water they were all floating.

I usually pour out half of my water or more and then let them fill it back up with their water at the bait store. Ive never had any trouble even if I don't dump any out, or at least never noticed any

Dont mix water. it doesnt matter if the water came from the same tank. dont mix it. start with new water every time u add minnows. do not dump the old minnows into the new minnow bucket. take them out with a net or something. minnows should not die doing this.

Thanks, I'll try that. I think next time before I get new minnows I'll pour my old, still alive ones into another bucket, then get new minnows and water. Then when I get outside I'll dip my old minnows with a net and add to the new ones.

that's kinda what I do Scott, use a 7 gallon bucket to get minnows in and have em fill it up. Get to the boat I dip out the minnows left in my cooler and then empty the cooler and pour the 7 gallons of new water in it. time to start buying by the pound and fire up the minner vat.

Use 2 buckets. Make sure your old ones have fresh water. Get new ones put in 2nd bucket. Mixing aint good. Buy 2 pounds and put em in a 48 quart cooler at the house. Take out what you need. Give em fresh water daily. If mine die while fishing their the first to get slammed. Dead ones catch too. Main thing fresh water daily and fresh water in bucket when headed to lake. 7 gallon insulated bucket.
