A quickie on getting and owning a full-auto (FA) firearm.............

    1. A one time tax of $200. If the FA is on a Form 4 in another state, you are looking at $400 in taxes. Look for a FA on a Form 3 if out of state, that will save you $200 in taxes.

    2. The Form 4 can be signed by the Chief of Police of your city or the Sheriff of your county. Or you can go the trust or LLC route and skip the LEO.

    3. Form 4s are taking about 1 year to get approved these days.

    4. The transfer must go through a Class 3 (SOT) dealer unless the FA you buy is already in Mississippi. Usually a $100 fee for the transfer.

    5. Now for the prices....... They are NOT cheap. The bare minimum will be around $3500 for a basic FA.

    6. Once you own the FA you are basically done forever. The only time you need to inform the BATF is when you move or want to travel out of MS with it. BATF does not come check on them for time to time.

FYI, the O administration is currently proposing regs that would do away with Trusts and LLCs for this purpose, which would have the effect of denying ownership in locations where the LEOs refuse to sign forms. This is not just a North thing. Plenty of MS LEOs will, have and continue to refuse.

In addition, this restriction would prevent the transfer to children in the event of a death, such as a grandfather passing guns to a minor to be held in trust until 18 and legal to own.

    Listen to Wannabe...

The antis and uninformed are painting firearms trusts as this gigantic loophole that allows anyone to buy, own, or transfer a gun without any paperwork. This is not true. My immediate family is strongly considering a firearms trust to try and head off a national gun registry, should it happen.

BUUUT, if we had a firearms trust, I might as well use it and build a .300 AAC short barreled rifle with a suppressor. What's the point of having something if you're not going to use it?

Oh, and 3K for a chromed out Thompson reproduction is silly. The standard, non-chrome version is about $1,000.
