Bet I have y'all fooled on the title to this thread. It was just too darned windy to fish so I went to the first annual Smokin on the Rez at Ridgeland Park. Had a great time, learned a lot, got fed some world class BBQ, and even ran into some old friends from my college days.here is my old college buddies rig

Feeshrman, I use to compete on the Kansas city BBQ circuit, quite a experience. couldn't keep up with those people to expensive. Bout like fishing big tournaments you need good sponsors with open wallets.
I know what ya mean, my bud said they had about $150K in their set up and this event cost them $2000.00 just to attend and compete. He said some other events cost 5-16K. Heck, he paid $400.00 just for the hog. It's some kinda special bred porker, LOL!

It was alway party time till around 11:00 pm at that time fire and smoke all business till 1:00pm the next day [cook all night] at turn in time. Quite an experience for me. Couldn't wait to get in it, couldnt wait to get out.
That's some serious cookin machines ,but they can really crank out some good stuff.

Chris, you and Sammy need a set-up like that. Come in handy for the man-cave get togethers.

You can flat out spend some money on rigs and everything else for a competition. I entered in 1 and spent about 600-700 bucks and only had a brinkman offset smoker. Got 4th in ribs and brisket out of over 30 teams. I had a few folks show me their rigs and OMG they were kewl. One guy had a pellet smoker and you could point to anywhere on his rig and he could tell you the temp inside the smoker at that point. Just really neat
