Default Saved a ton of money!

I don't have any pics of this replacement but here's what happened.Miss Marsha had been out shopping and when she got home she parked her car and came in the house.Well her son called and wanted to know if she could pick up his daughter from school? She went to leave and her ignition lock would not turn.I gave her my truck and continued to mess with the lock.Found out later that her son had used the car and had accidently stuck his truck key in the lock and had heck getting it back out!I called on the lock Gods of the internet to tell me some info and found what I needed on Utube. Went out, took the column apart to see what was there.Saw what I had and went back to the net to look for parts. To replace the entire lock mechanism was gonna be between $250-$350.To replace the cylinder in the mechanism, $25-$50. Called around and found a place in Mempho that would rebuild it for $45.Took it out carried it to them and they fixed the lock.I don't know if any of yall have removed a ignition lock but you will find 2 bolts holding it to the column that have a conical face and no grooves for screwdriver. I used a small punch at a angle to make a indentation in the head since They are brass and tapped it at a angle till they came loose. When I went to pick up the lock I asked the man if they had any pop off bolts to replace the others. He said he didn't but would cut 2 flat head grooves in the ones I took out so I could reuse them! All in all, a little money and a little time saved a bunch of money in parts and labor!

    Well done.
When I worked at a junkyard we sold the whole lock for $50 and the cylinder for $10. But you would have 2 keys to the car then. Would used a small grinder to cut slots in the screwheads before removing. We had 10 minutes to remove a lock.

My hat's off to you. Watch out for the glare. I wouldn't have the bravery to try to fix something like that.
